Job summary

WSP India in Bengaluru is looking for a Façade Engineer to design and develop sustainable, energy-efficient building envelopes. You will help create concept through detail designs, coordinating with architects, structural and environmental engineers, and contractors.

The role requires 5+ years in façade design/engineering, with CAD proficiency (AutoCAD/Revit) and knowledge of building physics. International standards familiarity is a plus, and Chartered Engineer progression is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in built environment discipline (Façade Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or similar).
• 5+ years of experience in façade design/engineering or building physics and sustainability design.
• Willingness to progress towards Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional institution.
• Interest in the facades/cladding market and its impact on structure and environmental performance.
• Knowledge of environmental aspects of façade design (thermal performance, daylight, solar control).
• Deep technical and design skills in building envelope design, detailing, construction techniques and risk assessment.
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences and client relationship ability.
• Planning and organizational skills with excellent written and verbal communication.
• Familiarity with international codes incl. European standards.

• Participate in design meetings, contributing to discussions and presenting scheme calculations and sketches.
• Conduct research on potential cladding materials.
• Prepare design reports for various stages of the project, including concept, scheme, and detail.
• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, environmental engineers, fire engineers, acousticians, and contractors.

What we're looking for:

• A recognised degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in built environment discipline (Façade Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or similar area)
• Proven experience in a façade design/engineering role or other relevant industry experience in building physics and sustainability design
• A willingness to progress towards Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional institution.
• An interest in the facades/cladding market.
• A desire to understand the impact of façade systems on the structure and environmental performance of buildings.
• An interest in environmental aspects of façade design, including thermal performance, daylight, and solar control.
• In-depth technical and design skills related to building envelope design and detailing, construction techniques, procurement routes and risk assessment
• Ability to maintain personal effectiveness particularly during periods of higher-than-normal workload
• Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments and to develop and maintain successful client relationships.
• Planning and organizational skills with excellent communications skills (both written and verbal).
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD design software (e.g. Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper).
• Proficiency in Façade Embodied Carbon Assessment will be an added advantage.
• Understanding of and some ability to use analysis software tools (structural or thermal) such as Strand7, ANSYS, Solid Works, Mepla, Vitrages, Bisco, Trisco, Builddesk or Flixo will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with international codes including European standards will be a plus.

Experience - 5+ Years

Qualifications

• Experience of having worked with façade access systems, either within a consultancy or from a contractor’s role.
• Be able to demonstrate knowledge of façade access systems, their performance and operation, as well as the current engineering standards, practices, regulations and legislation.
• Be an enthusiastic, self‑motivated individual with a relevant academic background.
• Be competent in AutoCAD and/or Revit and 3D design software.
