Job summary

HERE Technologies is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to innovate and develop advanced ML and data analytics solutions for its industry-leading map platform. You will collaborate with developers and architects to define technical solutions and drive end-to-end development, deployment, and maintenance across environments.

You will lead ML model development, data mining, and predictive analytics efforts, guiding teams and influencing solution design.

What's the role?

The Principal Data Scientist in this team would be responsible for innovating and developing advanced machine learning and data analytics solutions to build our industry-leading map. The candidate will work with developers, architects to define technical solutions and drive the development, deployment, and maintenance of applications across multiple environments.

• Define and drive the technical direction for the next generation of process automation in HERE Core Map, leveraging highly scalable Big Data infrastructure and machine learning for global-scale digital map-making.
• Lead the development and application of advanced analytic, statistical, and machine learning models to improve data-driven map-making decisions and system control.
• Act as a technical expert and thought leader in areas of data mining, machine learning, statistics, predictive analysis, and modeling.
• Provide technical leadership across Core Map projects, driving complex data science initiatives and influencing solution design and architecture.
• Identify and drive opportunities to apply emerging machine learning and AI technologies to improve Core Map processes and solutions.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to data scientists and engineers, promoting best practices and scalable solutions.

Who are you?

• MS or PhD in a discipline such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Econometrics with an emphasis or thesis work on one or more of the following: computational statistics/science/engineering, data mining, machine learning, and optimization.
• Minimum of 10+ years related professional experience.
• Knowledge of data mining and analytic methods such as regression, classifiers, clustering, association rules, decision trees, Bayesian network analysis, etc. Should have expert‑level knowledge in one or more of these areas.
• Knowledge of Computer Vision, Deep Learning and Point Cloud Processing algorithms.
• Proficiency with a statistical analysis package and associated scripting language such as Python, R, Matlab, SAS, etc.
• Programming experience with SQL, shell script, Python, etc.
• Knowledge of and ideally some experience with tools such as Pig, Hive, etc., for working with big data in Hadoop and/or Spark for data extraction and data prep for analysis.
• Experience with and demonstrated capability to effectively interact with both internal and external customer executives, technical and non-technical to explain uses and value of predictive systems and techniques.
• Demonstrated proficiency with understanding, specifying and explaining predictive modeling solutions and organizing teams of other data scientists and engineers to execute projects delivering those solutions.

You will join theCore Map organization, the group responsible for building and maintaining the foundational location data that powers the entire HERE platform. The team consists of data scientists, machine learning engineers, software developers, and map domain specialists who work together to automate and scale global map‑making.We focus on developing high‑performance data pipelines, large‑scale processing systems, and advanced machine learning models that transform raw sensor, probe, and partner data into high‑quality map content used by customers worldwide.
