Job summary

ABC Fitness is seeking an experienced Reporting/BI engineer to architect and deliver scalable analytics solutions across Azure, AWS and Power BI. You will design semantic models, optimize data processing, and collaborate with product, engineering and security teams to translate business needs into reliable dashboards and reports.

The role requires hands-on expertise in Power BI, SQL, and dimensional modeling, with a track record of building production-grade reporting and mentoring teammates.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience architecting and delivering reporting, BI, analytics engineering or cloud data platform solutions.
• Deep hands-on Power BI experience including Desktop, Service, DAX and data refresh management.
• Experience with Azure, Azure Synapse and AWS in modern cloud data environments.
• Strong SQL skills: complex queries, views, stored procedures, transformations, reconciliation logic.
• Dimensional modeling, star schemas, semantic-layers and governed metrics.
• Experience building dashboards, embedded analytics, or multi-tenant reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with Git-based source control, peer review, CI/CD, automated deployments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot production reporting issues involving data accuracy, performance or security.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build and improve enterprise reporting solutions including dashboards and semantic models.

• Build and optimize reporting logic using SQL, DAX, Power Query, views and stored procedures.
• Collaborate across Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, AWS and related platforms to deliver secure reporting.
• Establish reporting engineering standards for source control, testing, release management and monitoring.
• Improve reliability through validation checks, reconciliation, refresh monitoring and runbooks.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, Security and QA to translate needs into scalable analytics.
• Mentor engineers and analysts, sharing patterns and reference implementations.

What You’ll Do

• Architect, build, and improve enterprise reporting solutions, including dashboards, semantic models, data transformations, embedded analytics, and reusable reporting assets.
• Design scalable Power BI semantic layers using dimensional modeling, governed metrics, reusable business logic, and performance-conscious modeling practices.
• Build and optimize reporting logic using SQL, DAX, Power Query, views, stored procedures, and cloud-based data-processing patterns.
• Work across Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, AWS, and related data platforms to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable reporting solutions.
• Establish reporting engineering standards for source control, testing, documentation, release management, monitoring, and production readiness.
• Improve reporting reliability through validation checks, source-to-report reconciliation, refresh monitoring, regression testing, and operational runbooks.
• Partner across Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, Security, QA, and business teams to translate reporting needs into scalable analytics solutions.
• Mentor engineers and analysts by sharing patterns, reviewing designs, creating reference implementations, and helping teams adopt consistent reporting practices.

What You’ll Need

• 8+ years of experience architecting and delivering reporting, BI, analytics engineering, enterprise data, or cloud data platform solutions.
• Deep hands‑on experience with Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, semantic models, refresh management, security, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, AWS, and modern cloud‑based data environments.
• Strong SQL skills, including experience designing and optimizing complex queries, views, stored procedures, transformations, and reconciliation logic.
• Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, star schemas, semantic‑layer design, data warehousing, lakehouse concepts, and governed business metrics.
• Experience building dashboards, paginated reports, embedded analytics, shared semantic models, or customer‑specific reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with engineering practices such as Git‑based source control, peer review, CI/CD, automated deployments, and environment management.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production reporting issues involving data accuracy, refresh failures, business logic, security, performance, or platform capacity.

And It’s Great to Have

• Experience with Databricks or similar lakehouse platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Embedded, or advanced Azure analytics services.
• Experience with Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Power BI Performance Analyzer, deployment pipelines, or related performance and modeling tools.
• Experience designing multi‑tenant, customer‑specific, or embedded reporting solutions at enterprise scale.
• Experience using Python, PowerShell, APIs, orchestration tools, copilots, or AI‑assisted workflows to automate reporting engineering processes.
