About the Role
Alpha College of Engineering, Thriumazhisai is seeking an experienced and accomplished Principal to provide strategic academic and administrative leadership for the institution.
The Principal will be responsible for driving academic excellence, institutional growth, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, research, student development, industry engagement, and operational effectiveness, while strengthening systems and processes across the institution.
The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in engineering education and demonstrated leadership experience in positions such as Principal, Dean, Director, HOD or equivalent academic/administrative leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership & Institutional Development
- Provide strategic leadership for the overall academic functioning and development of the institution.
- Strengthen teaching-learning practices, academic standards and faculty effectiveness.
- Monitor academic performance and implement initiatives to improve student outcomes.
- Promote initiatives focused on student development, employability, industry readiness and placements.
- Drive continuous improvement in academic processes, curriculum delivery and institutional practices.
2. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Lead and oversee institutional compliance with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Manage and coordinate AICTE approval, compliance and inspection processes.
- Oversee matters relating to Anna University affiliation, inspections, approvals and university requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory documentation, reports and institutional data.
- Maintain institutional readiness for regulatory inspections and reviews.
3. Accreditation & Quality Assurance
- Provide leadership for NBA, NAAC, NIRF, IQAC and other accreditation and quality-assurance initiatives.
- Strengthen institutional documentation, quality systems, academic records and evidence-based processes.
- Drive continuous quality improvement and ensure institutional preparedness for accreditation/assessment processes.
4. Research & Academic Development
- Promote a strong culture of research, innovation and academic development.
- Encourage faculty research, publications, consultancy, funded projects, patents and industry collaboration.
- Identify opportunities for research funding, institutional collaborations and industry-sponsored projects.
5. Admissions & Institutional Growth
- Work closely with the Management and relevant teams to strengthen student admissions and enrolment.
- Contribute to institutional growth strategies and student intake planning.
- Support initiatives to improve the institution's visibility, academic reputation and student appeal.
- Develop effective strategies for student retention, engagement and overall institutional growth.
6. Administration, Systems & Process Improvement
- Provide effective administrative leadership across academic and non-academic functions.
- Review existing systems and introduce process improvement, systemisation and digitalisation initiatives.
- Establish measurable systems for monitoring institutional performance and accountability.
- Promote efficient, transparent and technology-enabled administrative practices.
7. Infrastructure & Institutional Resources
- Identify and plan institutional requirements relating to infrastructure, laboratories, technology and academic facilities.
- Work with the Management and relevant teams on infrastructure development and resource planning.
- Ensure that institutional facilities and laboratories support academic, regulatory and student requirements.
8. Faculty & Stakeholder Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop faculty and academic leadership teams.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Work effectively with the Management, faculty, students, parents, industry partners, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders.
- Build strong institutional relationships with universities, professional bodies and industry.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline from a recognized institution.
- Strong academic background in Engineering / Technology or a related discipline.
- Significant post-Ph.D. experience in higher education.
- Substantial experience as a Professor with proven academic leadership experience.
- Previous experience in a senior leadership position such as Principal, Dean, Director, HOD or equivalent will be preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in AICTE compliance and inspection processes.
- Experience with Anna University affiliation, inspections and university-related processes will be highly relevant.
- Exposure to NBA / NAAC / NIRF / IQAC and quality-assurance processes.
- Proven experience in academic administration, institutional development and process improvement.
- Strong understanding of engineering college operations and higher-education regulatory requirements.
