Job summary

Surbana Jurong Bangalore is seeking an experienced Primary Design Engineer – Power & Energy to lead primary design for HV/EHV substations on international projects. You will develop SLDs/GA, specify equipment and perform clearances while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams across regions, including the Middle East.

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 8–15 years’ substation design experience are required.

Qualifications

• 8–15 years of relevant experience in substation primary engineering/design.
• Experience with engineering consultants, EPC organisations, utilities or power-sector organisations preferred.
• Candidates with experience in Saudi Arabia / GCC utility projects will be preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop primary substation designs for HV/EHV substations, including AIS/GIS systems and associated equipment.
• Prepare and review SLDs, GA drawings, equipment layouts, sections and elevations.
• Develop substation layouts considering electrical clearances, equipment arrangement, access, maintainability and constructability.
• Prepare equipment specifications and data sheets for transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, CTs, VTs/CVTs, surge arresters, busbars and other primary equipment.
• Undertake busbar and equipment sizing, electrical clearances and related primary design calculations.
• Coordinate with Protection & Control, Civil/Structural, Secondary, SCADA and other engineering disciplines.
• Review vendor drawings, technical submissions and engineering documents for compliance with project requirements.
• Support preparation of technical specifications, material requisitions, design reports and engineering schedules.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and client discussions.
• Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within agreed quality, schedule and budget requirements.
• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning and resolution of site queries where required.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant IEC/BS/IEEE standards, client specifications and utility requirements.

Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Primary Design Engineer – Power & Energy to join our Bangalore engineering team and support international substation and power infrastructure projects. The role will be responsible for the primary engineering and design of HV/EHV substations, ensuring compliance with applicable international standards, client specifications, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop primary substation designs for HV/EHV substations, including AIS/GIS systems and associated equipment.
• Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), General Arrangement (GA) drawings, equipment layouts, sections and elevations.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong experience in HV/EHV substation primary engineering and design.
• Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations, preferably in the 132kV, 220kV, 400kV or higher voltage range.
• Good knowledge of substation primary equipment and electrical clearances.
• Experience in developing and reviewing SLDs, GAs, layouts, sections and equipment arrangements.
• Understanding of earthing, lightning protection, busbar arrangements and substation clearances.
• Knowledge of relevant IEC/IEEE/BS standards and international utility practices.
• Experience working on international projects, preferably Middle East/KSA projects, will be an advantage.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; knowledge of relevant electrical engineering/design software is desirable.
• Good coordination and communication skills with multidisciplinary and international teams.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8–15 years of relevant experience in substation primary engineering/design.
• Experience with engineering consultants, EPC organisations, utilities or power-sector organisations preferred.
