Job summary

Sunfinity Technology Solutions is seeking a proactive PostgreSQL Database Administrator to manage, optimize, and scale our open-source PostgreSQL environments. You will own the full lifecycle from deployment to tuning, with emphasis on community-driven versions and upstream fixes.

The role requires hands-on Linux experience, expertise in high availability with Patroni or repmgr, and backup/restore mastery using pg_backrest or BARMAN.

Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years of hands-on PostgreSQL DBA experience in production.
• Strong Linux OS, Bash scripting, and monitoring tools.
• Backup/Recovery expertise with pg_backrest, Barman, or pg_dump.
• Active involvement in PostgreSQL community forums or mailing lists is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and manage high-availability PostgreSQL clusters on Linux.
• Optimize queries, vacuum strategies, indexing, and memory parameters.
• Migrate data and ensure security with RBAC and encryption.

Job Title: PostgreSQL DBA (Open-Source Specialist)Role OverviewWe are seeking a proactive and community-oriented PostgreSQL Database Administrator to manage, optimize, and scale our database infrastructure. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our PostgreSQL environments, focusing heavily on community-driven open-source versions. The ideal candidate doesn't just wait for patches; they are active in the PostgreSQL mailing lists/community, identifying emerging issues and implementing upstream fixes or optimizations locally.

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Database Administration & OperationsInstallation & Scaling: Deploy and manage high-availability PostgreSQL clusters on Linux environments.Performance Tuning: Deep-dive into query optimization, vacuuming strategies, indexing, and memory parameter tuning (shared_buffers, work_mem, etc.).High Availability: Implement and maintain robust replication (Streaming, Logical) and failover mechanisms (Patroni, Sentinel, or repmgr).Data migration : migrate database from Oracle to PostgresqlSecurity: Enforce strict RBAC, data encryption at rest/transit, and audit logging.
• 2. Open Source Advocacy & Proactive Problem SolvingCommunity Engagement: Actively monitor PostgreSQL community forums, bug trackers, and mailing lists (pgsql-hackers, pgsql-bugs) to stay ahead of potential vulnerabilities or bugs.Patching & Implementation: Proactively identify fixes in newer open-source minor versions and lead the implementation strategy within our infrastructure.Innovation: Evaluate and integrate open-source extensions like PostGIS, TimescaleDB, pg_partman to meet business needs.
• 3. Hybrid & Distributed Database SupportEDB (EnterpriseDB): Manage EDB-specific features such as EDB Postgres Advanced Server (EPAS) and Oracle compatibility layers where applicable.YugabyteDB: Support distributed SQL requirements, focusing on sharding, multi-region availability, and Yugabyte’s PostgreSQL-compatible API (YSQL).

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 2 to 4 years of hands‑on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in a production environment.Linux : Strong proficiency in Linux OS, shell scripting (Bash), and performance monitoring tools (top, iostat, vmstat).Backup/Recovery: Expert knowledge of physical and logical backups (pg_backrest, BARMAN, or pg_dump).Proactive Mindset: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex performance bottlenecks and contribute to/leverage the open-source community for solutions.

Preferred "Added Advantage" Skills

Experience with EDB Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM) .Knowledge of Distributed SQL concepts via YugabyteDB .
