Job summary

  • Minimum 12 months sailing as Chief Marine Engineer.

  • Formulate operation and maintenance plans and ensure day-to-day execution.

Job Responsibilities :
Purpose of the Role

To oversee and ensure the safe operations and maintenance of all the assigned vessels, floating equipment(s) as per their schedule,including their compliance with all the legal and regulatory requirements

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Policies, Processes and Procedures -
  • Assist in formulation of operation and maintenance plan for various assets, and ensure day-to-day execution in line with function standards & regulations
  • Implement new initiatives/ projects as per established policies to meet future requirements of asset operations
  • Provide inputs for improvements in business processes, specifications and best practices
  • Legal Compliance -
  • Monitor and ensure compliance against all the regulatory requirements related to renewal of various licenses required for vessel operations as per established guidelines by various statutory bodies
  • Ensure all the assigned ships have an active insurance including the hull and machinery insurance all the time to avoid any organizational costs in case of unseen fatalities
  • Monitor to comply that all the manpower/crew members onboard the ship are qualified and licensed as per stipulated statutory guidelines
  • Inspection & Maintenance -
  • Conduct the periodic inspection & audit of different electrical & mechanical systems of the ships and ensure their maintenance as per the preventive maintenance schedule
  • Arrange the timely availability of different spares against the requirement to avoid any delays in the preventive maintenance of ships
  • Supervise the repair/maintenance work carried out by external vendors/manufacturers
  • Coordinate for the periodic visits of various legal surveyors for different vessels and clarify their queries/concerns
  • Visit each flotilla as per the agreed frequency for inspection and ensuring compliance with the standard maintenance procedure
  • Dry Docking -
  • Supervise to ensure the dry docking for all the floating assets is done as per defined time period
  • Coordinate with legal surveyors to define the work scope for dry docking
  • Examine and ensure the preparedness for various legal surveys and inspections to be carried out during dry docking
  • Maintain the dry dock defective machinery list in collaboration with the team
  • Coordinate with various statutory bodies for different certification surveys and ensure that all the ships are certified timely and licenses granted to avoid any interruption in operations
  • Budget and Inventory -
  • Prepare the annual capex, operations & maintenance budget for various activities such as dry docking, material/services required, surveys etc.
  • Give the service orders and supervise the timely procurement for such raised requests
  • Optimally plan the spares so as to minimize the inventory carrying cost and thus reducing organizational costs
  • Safety Adherence -
  • Monitor the onboard safety systems on ships and ensure their compliance to agreed protocols while achieving the required documentation
  • Report any safety violations or near misses on government portal within the stipulated timeline
  • Bunker Management -
  • Receive the bunker and take care of sampling activities
  • Ensure the bunker supplier has completed the data regarding bunker supply on Swachh Sagar portal and collect bunker delivery note for record
  • Access and register with the Swachh Sagar portal and submit the fuel consumption data for all the assigned vessels on a monthly basis.
  • People Management -
  • Participate in recruitment activities & ensure retention / engagement of own team
  • Set performance objectives of own team, evaluate / appraise team members and provide regular feedback & guidance
  • Guide, mentor and develop own team to take larger and complex responsibilities
  • Evaluate training and development requirements for own team and make recommendations for learning interventions
Education Requirement :
  • Necessary: Class 1 Unlimited Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (COC)
Experience Requirement :
  • Necessary: - International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW)
  • Personal Survival Techniques (PST) Certification
  • minimum 12 months sailed as a Chief Marine Engineer
Desired:
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical engineering and naval architecture principles
  • Familiarity with marine/mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines
  • Manage and negotiate complex projects
