Job description

Vedanta Oil & Gas is India’s leading private sector oil and gas exploration and production company, unlocking the nation’s hydrocarbon potential to strengthen energy security. Operating under the brand “Cairn", the company holds interests in 44 blocks spanning over 47,000 sq km of acreage across India, with gross 2P (proved plus probable) and 2C (contingent) resources of 1.4 bnboe. Its producing assets span key hydrocarbon basins in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Assam, supported by technology-led exploration, advanced subsurface expertise, and world-class engineering capabilities.

With a diverse portfolio of conventional and unconventional resources and a strong pipeline of upcoming growth projects, Vedanta Oil & Gas aims to significantly expand domestic production towards India’s energy security and economic growth. The company is committed to achieving Net Zero, advancing responsible energy development while creating sustainable value for the nation, communities, and shareholders. In this context, we are looking forward to hire a dynamic leader for the role of Petroleum Engineer-Artificial Lift Services.

The incumbent will be responsible for end‑to‑end technical knowhow of most artificial lift systems, including design, optimization, reliability improvement, and integration with surface facilities. The role provides technical assurance, mentoring, and decision support to maximize production, reduce failures, and improve asset value.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead selection and detailed design of ESP, PCP, SRP and Jet Pump for new developments and mature assets.
  • Conduct advanced nodal analysis, system optimization, and lift comparisons to recommend best‑fit solutions.
  • Select critical equipment sizing: pumps, motors, VFDs, rods, tubing, Jet pump, and surface facilities.
  • Define artificial lift development strategies for brownfield and infill drilling programs.
  • Own artificial lift performance surveillance across assigned assets.
  • Identify production losses, inefficiencies, and recurring issues; devise corrective action plans.
  • Establish and track KPIs such as run life, MTBF, efficiency, energy consumption, and deferment.
  • Drive continuous optimization initiatives and production debottlenecking.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major or recurring artificial lift failures.
  • Review teardown analysis and operational data to identify systemic weaknesses.
  • Implement design, operational, and procedural improvements to enhance run life.
  • Develop and maintain failure databases and reliability dashboards.
  • Ensure full integration between downhole artificial lift systems and surface facilities (VFDs, transformers, switchgear, flowlines).
  • Provide technical oversight on vibration, power quality, harmonics, and motor protection (ESP‑focused assets).
  • Support digital oilfield initiatives: SCADA, real‑time monitoring, analytics, and alarms.
  • Technical focal point for artificial lift vendors and service providers.
  • Review and approve SOWs, tender documents, and technical proposals for integrated PE or ALS contracts.
  • Participate in bid evaluations, technical clarifications, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure contractual compliance and technical governance.
  • Provide senior technical support during critical installations, startups, failures, and well interventions.
  • Guide field engineers during troubleshooting and complex operations.
  • Approve non‑routine operational changes and deviations.
  • Mentor junior and mid‑level artificial lift engineers.
  • Lead technical workshops, lessons‑learned sessions, and best‑practice implementation.
  • Develop engineering standards, guidelines, and workflows.
  • Present artificial lift performance and improvement plans to asset management.
  • Support integrated production planning and reserves realization discussions.
  • Interface with reservoir, drilling, facilities, and operations teams.
  • Ensure all artificial lift activities comply with company HSE policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture in engineering and field operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering/ mechanical engineering/electrical engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10-15 years of experience with minimum 7 years of experience in artificial lift / production engineering.
  • Proven exposure to field operations, optimization, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with integrated PE or long‑term O&M contracts preferred.
Technical Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in artificial lift design and simulation software (e.g., PROSPER, CFER, S-rods and ESP design tools).
  • Strong understanding of multiphase flow, well hydraulics, and production chemistry.
  • Solid knowledge of VFDs, power systems, automation, and surface facility constraints.
  • Data‑driven analysis and performance optimization skills.
