Job summary

Assystem seeks an experienced Pavement Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis and assessment of airfield pavements including runways, taxiways and aprons. You will ensure compliance with international aviation standards and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams in Mumbai.

The role requires 8+ years in pavement design, familiarity with FAA/ICAO guidelines, and proficiency in pavement design software and AutoCAD. Mumbai-based office with project execution across infrastructure sectors.

Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification in civil engineering with pavement focus.
• Experience with airport/airfield pavement projects is preferred.
• Familiarity with FAA/ICAO guidelines and international codes.

Responsibilities

• Design flexible and rigid pavements for runways, taxiways and aprons.
• Perform pavement design using FAA/ICAO/DGCA guidelines.
• Conduct pavement thickness design, overlay design, and rehabilitation planning.
• Analyze traffic loading and subgrade characteristics.
• Review geotechnical reports and integrate inputs into designs.
• Prepare design reports, technical notes, drawings and BOQs.
• Coordinate with structural, geotechnical and airport planners.
• Provide technical support during construction and execution phases.
• Conduct site investigations and field testing to validate designs.
• Perform QA reviews to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
• Develop cost estimates and budget recommendations for pavement projects.
• Evaluate sustainability and lifecycle considerations in design.

Role Overview

The Pavement Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and evaluation of airfield pavements, including runways, taxiways, aprons, and associated infrastructure, ensuring compliance with international and national aviation standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design of flexible and rigid pavements for:
  • Runways
  • Taxiways
  • Aprons
• Perform pavement design using:
  • FAA / ICAO / DGCA guidelines
• Conduct:
  • Pavement thickness design
  • Overlay design
  • Rehabilitation strategies
• Analyze:
  • Traffic loading (aircraft mix & frequency)
  • Subgrade characteristics
• Use software/tools such as:
  • FAARFIELD
  • COMFAA
  • AASHTO methods
• Review geotechnical reports and integrate inputs into pavement design
• Prepare:
  • Design reports
  • Technical notes
  • Drawings & BOQs
• Coordinate with:
  • Structural / Geotechnical / Airport planners
• Provide technical support during:
  • Construction & execution phase
• Conduct site investigations and coordinate field testing activities to validate design assumptions and subgrade conditions
• Perform quality assurance reviews and verify compliance with design standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements
• Develop cost estimates and budget recommendations for pavement design and rehabilitation projects
• Evaluate sustainability and environmental considerations in pavement design, including material selection and lifecycle assessment
• Prepare maintenance and performance monitoring recommendations to optimize long-term pavement durability
• Communicate design findings and recommendations to stakeholders through technical presentations and documentation

Qualifications

• B.Tech / M.Tech in Civil Engineering
• Specialization in Transportation / Pavement Engineering preferred

Experience Requirement

• Minimum 8+ years in pavement design
• Experience in airport / airfield pavement projects preferred
• Exposure to:
  • Runway / taxiway / apron design
  • International codes (FAA / ICAO)
