Job summary

Assystem India is seeking a Senior Pavement Design Engineer to lead design, analysis, and evaluation of airfield pavements including runways, taxiways, and aprons in compliance with international standards.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in pavement design, experience on airport projects, and hands-on proficiency with FAA/ICAO guidelines and pavement software such as FAARFIELD, COMFAA, and AASHTO methods. Strong reporting and coordination skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master in civil engineering with pavement focus.
• Airport/airfield pavement experience preferred.
• 10+ years of pavement design experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze airfield pavements (runways, taxiways, aprons).
• Coordinate with structural/geotechnical teams.
• Prepare design reports, drawings, and BOQs.
• Provide technical support during construction and execution.
• Review geotechnical reports and inputs.

Job Description

Role Overview

The Pavement Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and evaluation of airfield pavements, including runways, taxiways, aprons, and associated infrastructure, ensuring compliance with international and national aviation standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design of flexible and rigid pavements for:
  • Runways
  • Taxiways
  • Aprons
• Perform pavement design using:
  • FAA / ICAO / DGCA guidelines
• Conduct:
  • Pavement thickness design
  • Overlay design
  • Rehabilitation strategies
• Analyze:
  • Traffic loading (aircraft mix & frequency)
  • Subgrade characteristics
• Use software/tools such as:
  • FAARFIELD
  • COMFAA
  • AASHTO methods
• Review geotechnical reports and integrate inputs into pavement design
• Prepare:
  • Design reports
  • Technical notes
  • Drawings & BOQs
• Coordinate with:
  • Structural / Geotechnical / Airport planners
• Provide technical support during:
  • Construction & execution phase
• Conduct site investigations and coordinate field testing activities to validate design assumptions and subgrade conditions
• Perform quality assurance reviews and verify compliance with design standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements
• Develop cost estimates and budget recommendations for pavement design and rehabilitation projects
• Evaluate sustainability and environmental considerations in pavement design, including material selection and lifecycle assessment
• Prepare maintenance and performance monitoring recommendations to optimise long-term pavement durability
• Communicate design findings and recommendations to stakeholders through technical presentations and documentation

Qualifications

Qualification

• B.Tech / M.Tech in Civil Engineering
• Specialization in Transportation / Pavement Engineering preferred

Experience Requirement

• Minimum 10+ years in pavement design
• Experience in airport / airfield pavement projects preferred
• Exposure to:
  • Runway / taxiway / apron design
  • International codes (FAA / ICAO)
