Responsibilities

• Draft high‑quality patent specifications for telecom, wireless, and semiconductor inventions.

• Draft and analyze claims referencing 3GPP TS/TR and ETSI standards (4G LTE, 5G NR, 6G concepts).
• Conduct SEP claim mapping and essentiality assessments.
• Interact with inventors to guide through patent process and identify patentable subject matter.
• Support portfolio strategy, continuation planning, and cross‑jurisdiction filings (PCT, EPO, IN).
• Coordinate with internal/external counsel and foreign associates for international filings.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Patent Attorney with a strong background in Electronics & Communications Engineering to join our patents team. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the telecommunications domain, with particular expertise in 3GPP standards. A registered Patent Agent qualification is mandatory. A law degree (LLB/LLM) is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Patent Drafting: Independently draft high-quality patent specifications for inventions in the telecom, wireless communications, and semiconductor domains.
• Patent Prosecution: Manage and respond to Office Actions before patent offices including the USPTO, EPO, and Indian Patent Office, with minimal supervision.
• Standards-Based Claim Drafting: Draft and analyze claims with reference to 3GPP Technical Specifications (TS/TR) and ETSI standards, including 4G LTE, 5G NR, and emerging 6G frameworks.
• SEP Analysis & Essentiality Mapping: Conduct Standard Essential Patent (SEP) claim mapping and essentiality assessments.
• Inventor Interaction: Conduct invention disclosure interviews, guide inventors through the patent process, and identify patentable subject matter within complex technical inventions.
• Portfolio Management: Support patent portfolio strategy, including continuation planning, divisional filings, and long‑term IP alignment with client business objectives.
• Cross-Jurisdiction Coordination: Coordinate with internal/external counsel and foreign associates for international filings under PCT, EPO, and other jurisdictions.

Required Qualifications

• Education: B.E. / B.Tech. or M.Tech. in Electronics & Communications Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution, with a demonstrated track record of independently drafted patent applications.
• Agent Registration: Registered as a Patent Agent (Indian Patent Office). A law degree (LLB/LLM) is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Standards Expertise: Strong working knowledge of 3GPP Release specifications (Rel-15 through Rel-18/19), ETSI standards, and related SDO processes, including RAN, SA, and CT working groups.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of wireless communications technologies including 5G NR, LTE, MIMO, beamforming, MAC/PHY layers, network slicing, and core network architectures.
• Drafting Skills: Proficiency EP and US style patent drafting conventions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience handling SEP portfolios for telecom OEMs or standards‑contributing companies.
• Experience with patent drafting or prosecution for clients such as telecom equipment manufacturers, chipset vendors, or network infrastructure companies.
• Working knowledge of IoT, V2X (C-V2X), Wi‑Fi (IEEE 802.11), or related standards alongside 3GPP.
• Exposure to AI/ML‑based network optimization or O‑RAN architecture patents is a plus.
