The City of Royal Oak, MI is seeking a Probation Pre-Sentence Investigator for the 44th District Court to interview, investigate, and evaluate personal and criminal histories, and prepare comprehensive pre-sentence reports and treatment plans tailored to each individual.

This part-time position offers 24-32 hours per week, up to 1,400 hours per year, with hours managed under the supervision of the Chief Probation Officer and Court Administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, psychology, social work, counseling, sociology or closely related field.
• Strong word processing skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.

• Conduct thorough background checks into criminal, social, medical, and substance use histories, and verify educational background, military service, and financial history.
• Interview defendants, victims, and related parties to gather objective data and utilize motivational interviewing to assess accountability and readiness for change.
• Perform specialized alcohol and drug evaluations to determine rehabilitation needs, utilizing evidence-based tools.
• Prepare comprehensive pre-sentence investigation reports and treatment plans within strict statutory deadlines, integrating assessment scores, rehabilitative goals, and legally compliant sentencing options and supervision terms.
• Other duties as assigned.

The candidate will prepare comprehensive pre-sentence investigations, alcohol evaluations, and sentencing recommendations, which include actionable treatment and rehabilitation plans tailored to each individual.
