Job summary

South Mississippi Mental Health Center in Pascagoula, MS, seeks an Adult Community Support Specialist to provide direct behavioral interventions and support services in home and community settings.

You will collaborate with families, coordinate with treatment teams, participate in outreach, and help develop peer counseling programs; CPR/CPI training, DMH certification within 30 days, and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field.
• Eligible for Community Support Specialist certification through the Mississippi Department of Mental Health.
• Requires CPR prior to reporting to the work site; CPI training within 30 days; valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance; DMH certification within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct one-on-one behavioral interventions to teach communication, social, academic, and daily living skills and reduce problematic behaviors home and community settings with mental, emotional, and social well-being challenges.
• Collaborate with family and serve as a liaison between community and outpatient treatment teams to provide treatment.
• Participates in outreach activities to promote mental, emotional, and social well-being programs throughout Jackson County.
• Facilitate and assist in developing peer counseling programs throughout Region XVI.
• Attend staffing on a regular basis throughout Jackson County, discuss appropriate cases with clinicians and provide consultation/referrals on cases within county.
• Always maintains client confidentiality.
• Provides community support services in compliance with DMH standards.

Essential Duties

Service Delivery Expectations

Provides direct one-on-one behavioral interventions to teach communication, social, academic, and daily living skills and reduce problematic behaviors home and community settings with mental, emotional, and social well-being challenges. Collaborate with family and serve as a liaison between community and outpatient treatment teams to provide treatment. Participates in outreach activities to promote mental, emotional, and social well-being programs throughout Jackson County. Facilitate and assist in developing peer counseling programs throughout Region XVI. Attend staffing on a regular basis throughout Jackson County, discuss appropriate cases with clinicians and provide consultation/referrals on cases within county. Always maintains client confidentiality. Provides community support services in compliance with DMH standards.

Documentation And Quality Improvement

Documents appropriate activities in case note format that justify the need for treatment. Completes and submits service logs per agency policy. Maintains case record documentation that is adequate, appropriate, complete, and timely.

Interpersonal And Leadership Skills

Attends and participates appropriately in clinical staffing. Responds to clients needs in an appropriate and timely manner. Demonstrates appropriate interactions with coworkers that promote a pleasant work environment.

Support Duties

Completes additional job duties assigned by supervisor. Participates in interagency collaboration for the provision of client services when assigned. Serves as lead or back-up emergency on-call person when requested to do so. (Annually at a minimum)

Experience & Education

Required

Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field. Eligible for Community Support Specialist certification through the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. Requires satisfactory completion of CPR prior to reporting to the work site. Requires satisfactory completion of CPI within 30 days of employment. Requires valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance. Requires ability to transport clients in private vehicle when necessary. Requires DMH certification within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout duration of employment.

Preferred

Previous experience in a mental health setting strongly preferred. Previous experience working with an SMI/SED in a treatment setting strongly preferred.
