Job summary

Nayara Energy in India seeks a Panel Operator to monitor, control and optimize refinery process parameters, ensuring safe, compliant operation and rapid response to emergencies.

You will align with SOPs, read logs, adjust parameters to meet yield targets, supervise field officers, monitor alarms, manage start-up/shut-down, and maintain MIS records. This role offers growth at the Vadinar refinery with exposure to energy sector best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years in panel operations in refinery/chemical industry.

Responsibilities

  • Direct field officers for parameter control.
  • Observe instruments, trends, and alarms on the control panel.
  • Manage start up and shut down of unit safely and in accordance with procedures.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report process deviations or equipment malfunctions.

Job Purpose: To monitor, control, and optimize process parameters to achieve design objectives and operational excellence. Acts as the first responder during process emergencies and ensures efficient, safe, and compliant panel operations.

Responsibilities
Quality Management System
  • Execute shift activities as directed by Shift In-Charge.
  • Align with business planning (short, medium, long term).
  • Adjust process parameters to meet yield targets and products quality targets.
  • Read the previous shifts’ logs (Log of all days / hours of his absence) and note down key issues viz., quality issues, continuing maintenance jobs etc., needing special attention.
  • To implement most cost economical operation to meet Refinery steam, power and feed water demand as well power export/ import to state grid as per plan in close coordination with SIC.
  • Understanding Operating costs and trying to Optimize in planned activities. Ensure maximum utilisation of cheaper fuel.
Systems, Policies & Procedures
  • Implement unit-specific panel operation SOPs Emergency SOPs and checklists.
  • Implement refinery integrated management procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to systems and procedures.
Panel Operations Management
  • Direct field officers for parameter control activities.
  • Observes instruments, trends, and alarms on the control panel to constantly monitor critical parameters within IOW.
  • Manages start up and shut down of unit in a safe and controlled manner as per procedures.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report process deviations or equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure sampling schedule compliance and review lab results.
  • Maintain product quality and yield as per EPS guidance.
  • Ensure safety interlocks are operational.
  • Participation in Management of Change (MOC) & project pre-commissioning, commissioning, and execution.
  • Participation of In-Plant training.
  • Report process & safety Near misses, substandard condition, and act
  • Implementation of unit specific operational and safety checklist
  • Ensures the compliance to equipment changeover Schedules.
  • Monitors the Process parameters to ensure that the business objectives of the plant are achieved while controlling the process parameters in line with the guidelines / Instructions received from the Shift In Charge & critical parameters within IOW.
  • Analyze previous shift logs for continuity and issue tracking.
MIS & Documentation
  • Prepare and analyse department MIS reports for decision-making.
  • Maintain logs of operational changes and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the Logs for all the changes carried out during the shift.
  • Record of alarms and optimising alarms in coordination with SIC/ AAM.
  • Maintain the records of the critical jobs that are being carried out by Maintenance during the shift, continuing from the previous shift and the jobs envisaged to be carried out in the next shift.
OHSMS – Health, Safety & Welfare
  • Accept/reject work permits based on safety compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to HSEF procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Manage safe shutdown/start-up during utility or equipment failures.
  • Comply with ERDMP guidelines during emergencies.
  • Adhere to the procedure wrt emergency shutdown and start up to ensure safe shutdown and start-ups during situations of utilities failure / critical equipment failure.
Environment Management System
  • Initiate/stop effluent disposal per safety norms.
  • Ensure environmental compliance and SOP adherence.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental impacts and legal obligations.
  • Stay updated on RIMS documentation.
Energy Management System (ISO 50001:2018)
  • Monitor and optimize energy parameters and report deviations.
  • Promote awareness of energy policy and objectives.
  • Stay updated on EnMS documentation and ensure compliance of it.
Qualifications

B.E. / B.Sc. / Diploma or equivalent

Experience

Minimum 2 years in Panel Operations within petrochemical, refinery, fertilizer industry or other chemical industries.
