Job summary

Quest Global is seeking an experienced system design lead to spearhead packaged system development, including cabinet layout, power distribution, and overall architecture. You will apply DCS/PLC expertise to ensure seamless integration and troubleshooting across projects.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with stakeholders to meet specifications, standards and customer needs, while contributing to FAT/SAT, commissioning, and on-site support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in instrumentation/electrical/controls or equivalent.
  • 10+ years designing/integrating control systems (DCS/PLC) and cabinet systems.
  • Experience with upgrading complex control systems with minimal downtime.
  • Proficient in electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of complete packaged systems including cabinet layout and system architecture.
  • Utilize DCS/PLC expertise to integrate and troubleshoot control devices.
  • Mentor package system engineers, designers, and drafters; act as technical focal point.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align design with project goals and regulations.
  • Create and maintain system design documents, schematics, and manuals.
  • Provide technical sales support and lead FAT/SAT, commissioning, and site work.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design and Architecture: Lead the design of complete packaged systems, including the overall cabinet layout, internal components, power distribution, and system architecture. Ensure that designs meet project specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements. Select appropriate components (e.g., DCS controller, I/O cards) based on system requirements. Integrate these components to ensure optimal performance and seamless communication across the system.
  • Control Systems Expertise: Utilize in-depth knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC) to ensure proper integration, configuration, and troubleshooting of control devices within the system.
  • Team & Project Leadership: Lead and mentor package system engineers, designers, and drafters. Plan, assign, and review engineering deliverables to ensure quality and schedule adherence. Act as the technical focal point for package system design within the project team.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with stakeholders to ensure the system design aligns with all aspects of the project. Provide technical guidance and support throughout the design, testing, and installation phases.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive system design documents, schematics, and manuals. Ensure that all designs comply with company standards, industry regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Execution and Support: Coordinate with vendors, OEMs, and internal disciplines. Provide technical sales support for generation of customer proposals. Engineering support and lead during FAT, SAT, commissioning, installation, troubleshooting and modifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering, Control, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of experience in designing and integrating control systems, with a focus on DCS/PLC platforms and BOP cabinet systems.
  • Experience in upgrading complex control systems, including managing cabinet system architectures and ensuring minimal system downtime during upgrades.
Technical Skills
  • Proven experience leading engineering or design teams
  • Familiarity with safety-critical systems and their integration into control systems.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices related to industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with PLM tools and proficiency with both solid modelling and 2-dimensional CAD tools for system design (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor).
  • Familiarity with industrial automation standards and safety regulations (e.g., IEC, ISO).
Leadership & Soft Skills
  • Strong technical decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Mentoring mindset with focus on quality and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with various engineering teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive team performance.
  • Willingness to travel for FAT/SAT or site support when required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with gas, steam, or combined-cycle power plants
  • Knowledge of redundancy concepts, safety systems, and interlocks
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD model reviews and coordination with design tools
  • Exposure to international projects and multicultural engineering teams
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
