Job summary

Sensata Technologies is seeking a Process Engineer to design and optimize manufacturing processes for electromechanical products. You will collaborate with design, equipment vendors, and quality teams to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and support global production lines.

The role involves developing new equipment, validating processes, and aiding continuous improvement across multiple sites. Strong knowledge of PFMEA, APQP, and data-driven problem solving is essential to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or adapt production processes for assembly, calibration and testing.
  • Define specifications for production equipment and coordinate with mechanization and suppliers.
  • Participate in global NPD/NPI teams to enable successful product launches.
  • Collaborate across departments on process specifications, quality aspects, product specs and equipment continuity.
  • Influence product designs during NPD to ensure manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Develop new or improved manufacturing and testing processes to meet performance and cost goals.
  • Organize sample lines and process development equipment.
  • Coordinate advanced quality planning activities.
  • Review designs and debug/qualify new high-volume assembly/test equipment.
  • Transfer knowledge to manufacturing site personnel.
  • Support improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects and costs.
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure process capability and cost targets.

Job description

The Process Engineer is responsible for developing or modifying manufacturing processes to increase product performance, improve manufacturing efficiency and boost profits. This position works closely with design engineers, equipment vendors, program managers, marketing, and quality engineers to support the development of new electromechanical products. They are responsible for providing the overall process design and suggesting measures to improve product design for manufacturability. This includes the development of new equipment and process flows as well as developing cost estimates for labor and capital. They will also provide ongoing sustaining support to production lines at our global make sites.

General Responsibilities
  • Key participant in the development of new production processes and/or adapt existing production processes for assembly, calibration and testing
  • Define specifications for production equipment and interact with mechanization (in house) and/or equipment suppliers to ensure equipment will meet specifications
  • Key participant in global new product development project teams to enable successful launch of new products
  • Collaborate with other departments on process specifications, quality aspects, product specifications and continuity of equipment
  • Influence product designs during new product development phase to ensure economical and defect free manufacture
  • Developing new or improved manufacturing and testing processes that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future device applications
  • Organise the arranging of sample lines and process development equipment
  • Key participant in advanced quality planning activities
  • Coordinates all functional requirements, the reviewing of designs and debugging /qualifying new high volume assembly /test equipment or tooling
  • Transferring knowledge to make site personnel
  • Support improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects and manufacturing costs
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure processes are capable, have sufficient controls in place, can meet out delivery requirements, and meet our cost targets
  • Evaluate technical capabilities including tooling design, build experience, maintenance program, processes and process controls, cell automation- if required, quality control systems, and material knowledge
Experience / Qualifications
  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

Preferred Skillsets / Qualifications
  • Proven experience in the automotive industry (Tier-1/Tier-2 suppliers) or closely related electronics sectors such as automotive electronics, sensors, connectors, or electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Demonstrated ownership of New Product Development (NPD) or New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, leading activities from concept or RFQ stages through PPAP submission and Start of Production (SOP).
  • Strong understanding of IATF 16949 requirements and practical experience applying the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodology throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Ability to independently develop and maintain key quality deliverables, including Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Validation documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), including risk assessment, prioritization of actions, and implementation of effective process controls to mitigate manufacturing risks.
  • Proven problem-solving capability utilizing structured methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, and other root cause analysis tools to drive improvements in quality, yield, and manufacturing performance.
  • Experience analyzing process and quality data to identify improvement opportunities, reduce defects, improve process capability, and support cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, present project status updates, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and global engineering teams.
