Job summary

Shell IT Connectivity Portfolio seeks a Design Engineer to design and implement network solutions across offices, onshore and offshore facilities. You will work on WAN connectivity, VXLAN/EVPN, BGP/OSPF, and security integrations under guidance from senior engineers.

The role covers capital projects and IT initiatives, with responsibilities for HLD/LLD, testing, and handover to operations, including automation using Python/Ansible.

Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of experience in enterprise networking and design.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, OSI, BGP, OSPF, NAT, VPNs and VLANs.
  • Experience with SD-WAN, VXLAN/EVPN, and data center networks.

This role is part of the Shell IT’s Connectivity Portfolio team and specific to the WAN Connectivity portfolio, where Shell locations need to be connected to provide access to the Internet and Shell internal applications. The mission is to support projects with design engineering capabilities under the renewed model. The Design Engineer is expected to have a solid understanding of telecommunications and network technologies applied across the Shell Group. The role supports the design and implementation of network solutions across various business areas and locations, including offices, onshore and offshore facilities. The Design Engineer contributes to different types of projects, including both capital projects and IT initiatives, working under defined standards and guidance from senior design engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable network designs. The purpose of the design engineer role is to participate in projects and deliver the network designs and implementations required based on defined standards. The design engineer will be the key person in the project for all telecom and network elements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver enterprise, telecom, and data Centre network solutions aligned with standards
  • Implement VXLAN, BGP, OSPF and advanced routing technologies
  • Deployment of Cisco SD-WAN solutions
  • Design and support Aruba Wireless (Aruba Central, ClearPass)
  • Integrate security platforms including Palo Alto and Zscaler (ZIA/ZPA)
  • Develop HLD, LLD, implementation plans, and test strategies
  • Support testing, validation, and implementation activities
  • Participate in project delivery and coordination with multiple teams
  • Support project handover to operations
  • Assist in automation initiatives using Python, Ansible
  • Maintain configurations using Git and YAML
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Security, and Integration teams
  • Conduct design reviews and contribute to standards
Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts (TCP/IP, OSI model, Layer 2/3)
  • Solid understanding of BGP, OSPF, BFD, NAT, IPSec VPN, VLAN, STP/RSTP, VTP, and VRFs
  • Experience with 802.1X / NAC platforms (Aruba ClearPass, or equivalent)
  • Proven hands‑on experience in SD-WAN
  • Working knowledge of data center networking concepts: VXLAN/EVPN
  • Understanding of wireless networking (Aruba preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of network security
  • Familiarity with security policy, zone-based segmentation, and Global Protect VPN
  • Exposure to Python or Ansible
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub
  • 6 to 8 years of experience
  • CCNA/CCDA/CCNP Enterprise preferred
