BDO RISE invites a Lead Software Engineer I to own end-to-end delivery of major tax software features, collaborating with global teams in a hybrid setup. You will define requirements, architecture, and guide engineers to build scalable tax solutions using .NET, Angular/Typescript, and Azure services.
You will mentor peers, ensure code quality, and align development with security and regulatory standards while driving continuous improvement across tax product platforms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Finance, or Accounting preferred.
- Six+ years of hands‑on experience building web apps using C#, ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript frameworks (Angular/Typescript/React)
- Six+ years designing databases with SQL Server, Azure SQL, or NOSQL databases
- Six+ years designing and automating CI/CD/DevOps pipelines
- Six+ years experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Portal
- Experience with monitoring tools (App Monitoring, App Insights, Power BI) and scripting (PowerShell, Graph API, Azure CLI)
Responsibilities
- Leads design and implementation of major systems within an Agile team focused on tax solutions
- Designs, develops, and tests software using web and cloud technologies for tax products
- Applies modern software engineering principles across the lifecycle for tax applications
- Reviews requirements for technical feasibility and collaborates to deliver quality products
- Mentors junior engineers to improve code quality and reduce technical debt
- Maintains tax products per roadmaps and security/compliance mandates

The Lead Software Engineer I, Tax Product Development plays a critical role in designing and implementing complex features and solutions that support the tax practice and delivery of services to clients. The Lead Software Engineer owns end-to-end delivery of large features or systems, defining technical requirements and architecture for tax products and solutions. This role requires collaboration across global teams and cross-functional groups in a hybrid (in-person and virtual) work environment.
- Leads design and implementation of major systems and features within an Agile team focused on tax solutions
- Designs, develops, and tests software solutions using web and cloud technologies for innovative tax products
- Applies modern software engineering principles throughout the software lifecycle for tax-related applications
- Reviews business requirements for technical feasibility and collaborate with various teams to deliver quality tax software products
- Mentors junior engineers to enhance code quality and performance, and ensure compliance with standards in tax product development
- Maintains Tax products and platforms based on product roadmaps, production support process and complies with IT, security, and business compliance mandates
- Effectively communicates with stakeholders and cross functional teams such as technical architects and security teams and others
- Champions secure coding and technical debt reduction, while staying up to date with technology trends and evangelizes modern methods of software engineering and innovation

Education:
- Bachelor's degree required, with a focus in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Finance, or Accounting, preferred
- Six (6) or more years of hands‑on experience with building web‑based apps using the full Microsoft stack, including C#, ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, Typescript), React, or similar, required
- Six (6) or more years of experience in developing stored procedures and database schemas utilizing SQL Server, Azure SQL, or NOSQL databases, required
- Six (6) or more years of experience in designing and automating CI/CD/DevOps Pipelines, required
- Six (6) or more years of experience working with Microsoft Azure and Azure Portal, required
- Six (6) or more years of experience with Monitoring Tools such as App Monitoring, App Insights, and Power BI, required
- Proficient with scripting tools such as PowerShell, Graph API, and Azure CLI, required
- Proficient in applying software engineering and object‑oriented programming principles, preferred
- Strong experience in software design, algorithms, data structures, data modeling, and design patterns, preferred
- Expertise in writing clean code, leading code reviews, minimizing technical debt, and establishing coding standards and best practices within a team, preferred
- Ability to lead and mentor a team of software engineers, preferred
- Experience in project management and delivering complex software projects on time, preferred
- Ability to align software development with business goals and strategic vision, while encouraging innovation and continuous improvement within a team, preferred
- Microsoft MTA / MCSD, Azure Fundamentals (Az-900), Microsoft Azure Developer Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect, preferred
- Other Certifications in Microsoft, Azure MTA / MCSD, preferred
- Experience with the following products, preferred:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Microsoft Visual Studio
- Microsoft Azure Dev Ops or GitHub
- Microsoft SQL Server and/or Azure SQL DB
- Microsoft Power BI and PowerApps
