  • Provide nephrology consults for ICU and emergency departments.
  • Educate patients and families about treatment options and prognosis.
  • Maintain medical records, follow NABH/policy standards, participate in audits.

Job description

Clinical Care
  • Diagnose and manage patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), glomerular diseases, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, and renal failure.
  • Manage patients with hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, acid-base disorders, and diabetic kidney disease.
  • Provide consultation for critically ill patients with renal complications.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessment and investigations.
  • Conduct regular inpatient rounds and provide outpatient nephrology consultations.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, surgeons, intensivists, cardiologists, diabetologists, and other specialists.
2. Dialysis Services
  • Supervise and manage hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients.
  • Evaluate patients requiring initiation or modification of dialysis.
  • Manage dialysis-related complications and emergencies.
  • Monitor vascular access and coordinate with vascular surgeons where required.
  • Ensure appropriate dialysis prescriptions and clinical monitoring.
3. Procedures
  • Perform or supervise appropriate nephrology procedures, including:
    • Temporary dialysis catheter insertion
    • Renal biopsy, where credentialed and permitted
    • Peritoneal dialysis-related procedures, where applicable
    • Management of vascular access
    • Other procedures within the scope of institutional privileges
4. Emergency & Critical Care
  • Manage nephrological emergencies, including:
    • Severe hyperkalemia
    • Acute kidney injury
    • Fluid overload
    • Severe metabolic acidosis
    • Hypertensive emergencies with renal involvement
    • Dialysis emergencies
  • Provide nephrology support to ICU and emergency departments.
5. Patient & Family Care
  • Explain diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, and preventive measures to patients and relatives.
  • Provide counselling regarding dialysis, transplantation, lifestyle modification, and long-term renal care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional, ethical, and compassionate patient care.
6. Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records, prescriptions, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection-control practices, and patient-safety standards.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality-improvement initiatives, and NABH-related activities.
7. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities
  • Participate in teaching and training of medical students, residents, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals, as applicable.
  • Conduct case discussions, clinical presentations, CME activities, and academic sessions.
  • Stay updated with current nephrology guidelines, evidence-based practices, and advances in renal care.
