Job summary

Vedam Design in Mumbai seeks a naval architecture/Mechanical Engineering graduate with 3–4 years in a design consultancy to work in Basic Design for ships. You will prepare general arrangements, perform essential naval calculations, and support 3D modelling and weight estimation.

The ideal candidate holds a BE/B.Tech in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering and has exposure to different vessel types, with basic ISO standards knowledge.

Qualifications

• BE / B. Tech in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–4 years' design consultancy experience in Basic Design.
• Exposure to various vessel types; ISO standards knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare statutory drawings like fire protection plans and vessel arrangement drawings.
• Assist in concept/basic design of ships, including general arrangement and sizing calculations.
• Perform 3D modelling, weight estimation, stability and strength calculations, inclining tests, draft surveys.
• Prepare intact stability booklets and related basic structural drawings.

Job description

• Prepare Statutory Drawings like Fire Control Plan, Structural Fire protection plan, Life Saving Appliances Plan, Light sound and signal plan, Crew Accommodation Plan etc., prepare procurement specifications, arrangement drawings like Disposition of Doors, Hatches, Manholes, Windows and Scuttles etc.
• Concept Design of Ships - Prepare general arrangement for various types of vessels, perform basic naval architectural calculations of vessel sizing, lines plan development, resistance & powering, bollard pull calculations, propeller design, midship section, steel MTO and lightship weight estimation.
• 3D modelling, Lightship Weight estimation, Stability Analysis, Longitudinal Strength calculation, Freeboard calculation, Tank calibration report, Conduct Inclining Experiment, draft survey, basic knowledge of statutory rules & requirements, basic knowledge of ships structure.
• To assist in Basic Design of Ships- Involve in preparation of basic structural drawings and calculations. Prepare intact stability booklet for vessels, including stability calculations.

Desired profile of the candidate:

• Ideal candidate has up to 3-4 years' experience working for a design consultancy in the Basic Design dept, involved in concept/basic design of various types of vessels.
• Exposure to different types of commercial vessels and/or innovative design concepts advantageous.
• Basic understanding of ISO standards is preferred.
