We are seeking a Senior MySQL Database Administrator with deep experience in planning, executing, and supporting complex database upgrades and migrations for large, business-critical environments. The role requires hands-on expertise with terabyte-scale MySQL databases, low- or zero-downtime upgrade strategies, AWS-hosted production systems, and strong operational ownership.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with MySQL upgrades, AWS RDS and Aurora, database migration methods, high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and production support. Exposure to MongoDB, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and regulated financial-services platforms is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute major and minor MySQL upgrades, including MySQL 5.7 to 8.x
- Design upgrade and migration strategies for databases ranging from hundreds of gigabytes to multiple terabytes.
- Lead in-place upgrades, logical and physical migrations, replication-based migrations, Blue/Green deployments, and AWS DMS-based migrations.
- Perform upgrade readiness assessments covering compatibility, deprecated features, SQL modes, drivers, plugins, stored procedures, triggers, events, and
- Create upgrade runbooks, rollback plans, validation checklists, risk assessments, implementation plans, and stakeholder communication plans.
- Conduct pre- and post-upgrade validation, including row counts, checksums, reconciliation queries, performance benchmarking, and application testing.
- Coordinate production upgrade and migration activities with application, infrastructure, cloud, security, DevOps, QA, compliance, and business teams issues, locking, deadlocks, and application connectivity problems.
- Manage cutover planning, release windows, freeze periods, rollback decisions, post-migration monitoring, and production hypercare.
AWS and Database Platform Administration
- Administer and support MySQL databases on AWS, including Amazon RDS for MySQL, Amazon Aurora MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, EC2-hosted databases, and AWS Database Migration Service.
- Manage Multi-AZ deployments, read replicas, snapshots, automated backups, point-in-time recovery, parameter groups, option groups, cluster upgrades, and
- Monitor performance, replication health, capacity, storage growth, availability, security controls, audit logging, encryption, access policies, credential rotation, and AWS database costs restores, indexing, performance, upgrades, migrations, monitoring, and security practices.
- Administer Aurora PostgreSQL clusters and support PostgreSQL upgrades, failover, backups, monitoring, performance analysis, replication, autovacuum, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
Performance, Availability, and Operations
- Monitor and tune MySQL performance in high-volume transaction environments using slow query analysis, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, configuration tuning, and workload analysis.
- Manage high availability, disaster recovery, replication, failover, recovery testing, operational health checks, monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning.
- Support asynchronous, semi-synchronous, GTID-based, and read-replica
- Handle critical incidents, root-cause analysis, permanent corrective actions, and
- Support databases for digital lending, loan origination, loan servicing, payments, collections, credit decisioning, customer communications, and other financial-
- Ensure database changes follow change management, security, compliance, audit, and release management processes.
Required Technical Skills

- Experience with ITIL, incident, problem, change, and release management processes.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Percona Toolkit, MySQL Shell, MySQL Utilities, Orchestrator, ProxySQL, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, New Relic, or similar tools.
- Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, database deployment automation, Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001, data masking, tokenization, database activity monitoring, cross-region disaster recovery, and multi-region database
- AWS or database-related professional certification is an advantage.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- 8+ years of database administration experience, including 5+ years of strong MySQL
- Demonstrated experience upgrading databases of 1 TB or more.
- Experience with fintech, lending, banking, payments, or regulated financial-services environments is preferred.
- Proven ability to independently lead database upgrade and migration initiatives.
