Job summary

Delta6Labs FinTech Pvt Ltd is seeking a Lead Database Administrator to own and optimise mission-critical database systems across PostgreSQL, MySQL/MS SQL, and MongoDB. You will set standards, mentor DBAs, and drive performance, security, and scalability for a 24/7 fintech platform.

The role emphasizes high availability, disaster recovery planning, and cost-aware cloud database management, with strong emphasis on security and governance. Prior fintech/domain exposure is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of Database Administration experience (3-5 years managing DBA teams).
• Expert hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL and strong knowledge of MySQL and/or MS SQL Server.
• Strong knowledge of MongoDB – NoSQL data modeling, replica sets/sharding.
• Cloud database platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database) and Cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
• Practical knowledge of HA and replication: streaming replication, failover tooling (Patroni or equivalent).
• Good understanding of security mechanisms: roles, privileges, encryption, auditing.
• Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, pg_stat_statements, Datadog).
• Backup, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning with clear RPO/RTO definitions.
• Scripting in Python/Bash and IaC (Terraform/Ansible).
• Schema migration and CI/CD tooling (Flyway, Liquibase).
• Knowledge of streaming/CDC tools (Kafka, Debezium).
• Experience with TimescaleDB/ClickHouse/InfluxDB is a plus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are looking for a Lead Database Administrator (DBA) to own/manage/optimise our mission-critical database systems. The perfect candidate should have expertise in PostgreSQL, MySQL/MS SQL, and MongoDB, and have immense knowledge in RDBMS, high availability (HA), database security, performance engineering, disaster recovery, etc.

You will set (via documentation, collaboration, and example) standards for database usage and architecture, mentoring the DBA/engineering team as necessary, ensuring integrity, performance, security, and scalability of all databases behind our 24/7 fintech platform. Previous domain or tech exposure to Fintech, trading, payments, or cryptocurrency/exchange platforms is not essential but preferable.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of DBAs and database engineers; establish standards, best practices, and governance policies for databases.
• Drive the database architecture and roadmap from end to end; interact with engineering leadership for architectural and capacity-planning decisions.
• Designed, developed, and administered large-scale, high-volume transaction systems on PostgreSQL, MySQL/MS SQL, and MongoDB databases.
• Inspecting and taking care of cloud database services (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL) for cost handling of the DB.

High Availability & Scalability

• Design and maintain high-availability configurations: streaming replication, failover automation ( ex: Patroni), read replicas, connection pool management (pgBouncer), multi-region adapters
• Big Data horizontal scaling with partition/sharding strategies
• Zero/near zero downtime during maintenance, upgrades, and schema migrations in a 24 7 environment.

Performance Optimization & Monitoring

• Monitor database status and performance, and analyze capacity planning
• Low-latency huge workload queries, indexing & optimization against the database.
• Identify and adopt monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, pg_stat_statements, Percona PMM, Datadog) for preventive issue identification.

Security & Compliance

• Database Security Best Practices for each of the engines — Roles, Privileges, encryption at Rest / in transit, Access Control.
• Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments on a regular basis to protect your sensitive customer and financial data.
• Compliance and audit (ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI-DSS, data-protection regulation), with support for audit logging and data-retention policies.

Disaster Recovery & Backup

• Base the RPO/RTO target in planning backup and recovery strategies for point-in-time recovery.
• Assessing the business continuity — DR plans should be documented and tested;

Incident & Operations Management

• Managing database incident response internally — owning P1 incidents and root-cause analyses and postmortems.
• Implemented and maintained on-call rotation for 24/7 production environment services
• Create scripts (Python, Bash), IaC Terraform, Ansible to automate redundant database tasks.

Database Development & Support

• Contribute to schema design, indexing tactics, and safe-to-production schema migration practices (Flyway/Liquibase, CI/CD for database changes).
• Assist Development with query performance tuning and troubleshooting of a database.
• Schedule and conduct database upgrades, patches, and maintenance with minimal interruption

Requirements

• 15+ years of Database Administration experience (3-5 years managing DBA/database engineering teams or as the most senior-level DBA).
• Expert hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL (query writing, performance tuning, internals) and a strong understanding of MySQL and/or MS SQL Server.
• Strong knowledge of MongoDB – NoSQL data modeling, replica sets/sharding
• Deep knowledge and experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database) and Cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure)
• Practical knowledge of HA and replication: streaming replication, failover tooling (Patroni or equivalent), connection pooling (PgBouncer), read replicas.
• Good understanding of the security mechanisms provided at the database layer: roles, privileges, encryption, auditing.
• Hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and monitoring/observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana, pg_stat_statements, Percona PMM, Datadog or similar).
• Specialized in backup, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning with clear RPO/RTO definition.
• Practical experience handling large-scale, high-throughput, low-latency transactional databases on production 24/7.
• Working experience with cache/in-memory data store (ex: Redis) used to serve high-traffic applications.
• Scripting experience in (Python, Bash) and automation; Terraform or Ansible preferred.
• Schema migration and database CI/CD tooling experience (Flyway, Liquibase or similar) is a plus.
• Knowledge of streaming/CDC tools (Kafka, Debezium) will be preferred.
• Time-series databases (TimescaleDB, ClickHouse, InfluxDB) knowledge would be a plus!
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills; mentoring/guiding engineers and establishing guidelines in databases across the teams.

Preferred (Not Mandatory)

• Domain knowledge in one or more of the following processes: fintech, banking, payments, trading platforms, or crypto exchanges. This will be a plus point for the candidates.
• Experience in supporting regulatory audits and experience in a compliance-oriented environment.
