Job summary

Golden Hippo is seeking an experienced MySQL Database Administrator to manage production MySQL/MariaDB and MongoDB environments across development, QA, and production. You will optimize queries, design backups, ensure high availability, and collaborate with development teams to improve performance.

Candidates should have 3–5 years in DB administration, scripting skills, and familiarity with monitoring tools.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in MySQL/MariaDB and MongoDB administration with hands-on performance tuning and optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of MySQL query optimization, indexing, execution plans, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with MongoDB performance tuning, indexing strategies, aggregation framework, query optimization, and schema design.
  • Experience with MySQL Replication and MongoDB Replica Sets/Sharding setup, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with backup and recovery tools for both MySQL and MongoDB.
  • Experience with scripting (Shell, Bash, Python, or PowerShell) for database automation.
  • Familiarity with PMM, MongoDB Compass, MongoDB Atlas Monitoring, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, administer, and support MySQL/MariaDB and MongoDB database servers for Production, QA, and Development environments.
  • Design and implement database monitoring for performance, bottlenecks, replication health, and other issues, identify and deploy appropriate solutions.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and upgrade strategies for MySQL and MongoDB.
  • Design and implement database architectures that support business requirements, scalability, and high availability.
  • Create and optimize complex SQL queries, indexes, stored procedures, bulk data extraction processes, and MongoDB aggregation pipelines and indexes.
  • Build database automation tools and scripts for administration, monitoring, backup, and maintenance tasks.
  • Proactively monitor database systems to ensure security, availability, and minimal downtime.
  • Manage large-scale, complex distributed web applications with both relational (MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
  • Experience supporting high‑throughput, high‑availability database environments.
  • Perform database performance tuning using monitoring and profiling tools.
  • Configure and maintain MySQL Replication/Clustering and MongoDB Replica Sets/Sharding, including tuning, sizing, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with development and infrastructure teams to optimize database design, deployments, and application performance.
  • Provide 24×7 production database support and participate in on‑call rotations.

We are seeking an experienced MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, optimize, and secure our MySQL database environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance tuning, backup and recovery, database security, and supporting application development teams. The role requires strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with production database environments.
