Job summary

Ramdisk is seeking an experienced multimedia software engineer to design, develop and debug multimedia subsystems on Android and embedded Linux platforms. You will work across the stack from kernel drivers to framework-level components and integrate hardware codecs.

Strong C/C++ skills and hands-on experience with ALSA, V4L2, DRM/KMS, and GStreamer are essential. You will bring up multimedia stacks on SoCs (Qualcomm/Rockchip/Raspberry Pi or similar), debug audio/video sync, latency, and

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and debug multimedia subsystems (audio, video, display) on Android and embedded Linux platforms.
• Work across the full multimedia stack: kernel drivers, vendor HALs, and framework-level components.
• Implement and maintain Codec2 (C2) HAL components for hardware/software video and audio codecs.
• Develop and debug ALSA-based audio drivers and audio HAL integration.
• Work with V4L2 for camera and video decode/encode pipelines.
• Debug and optimize the display pipeline using DRM/KMS, HWComposer, and SurfaceFlinger.
• Integrate and validate hardware codecs for H.264, H.265 (HEVC), VP9, AAC, and MP3.
• Use GStreamer for pipeline development, testing, and multimedia application integration.
• Bring up and validate multimedia stacks on new SoC platforms (Qualcomm, Rockchip, or similar).
• Root-cause and resolve issues related to audio/video sync, latency, buffer management, and playback stability.
• Collaborate with SoC vendors, kernel teams, and application teams to resolve cross-layer issues.
• Profile and optimize performance using tools such as Perfetto, logcat, dmesg, gdb, and strace.
• Write clean, maintainable C/C++ code and contribute to AOSP-based codebases.
• Document technical designs, debug findings, and stack architecture.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Strong hands-on experience with Android and Linux multimedia frameworks
• Proficient in C and C++ with solid understanding of low-level system programming
• Deep knowledge of ALSA (audio), V4L2 (video capture/decode), and DRM/KMS (display)
• Experience with Android Codec2 (C2) HAL architecture and MediaCodec framework
• Working knowledge of video/audio codecs: H.264, H.265, VP9, AAC, MP3
• Experience with GStreamer pipeline development and debugging
• Familiarity with AOSP build system and HAL/kernel driver development
• Experience with embedded hardware platforms (Qualcomm, Rockchip, Raspberry Pi, or similar SoCs) is a plus
• Understanding of SurfaceFlinger, HWComposer, and Android graphics stack is a plus
• Strong debugging skills using tools like Perfetto, logcat, dmesg, gdb, and strace
