Job summary

Sopra Steria is seeking an experienced Database Administrator in India to manage and optimize MS SQL Server databases, implement clustering strategies, and ensure robust backup and recovery. You will monitor performance, respond to incidents, and assist developers with troubleshooting and code reviews.

The role requires 6–8 years of experience, a Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT, and hands-on expertise with AWS and database tools. This position is based in India, Uttar Pradesh, Dadri, on-site.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of database management and optimization.
• Experience with high-transaction databases in clustered environments.
• Basic ITIL fundamentals; certification would be preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage Microsoft SQL Server databases and associated services.
• Implement and support clustering, Always On, and log shipping.
• Monitor performance, tune queries, and ensure backup/recovery readiness.
• Handle priority incidents and perform root cause analysis.
• Assist developers with code reviews and troubleshooting.
• Maintain awareness of networking and storage concepts.

Job Description

• Extensive technical knowledge and experience in database management techniques including physical database optimization, database performance monitoring, backup and recovery.
• Experience of managing high transaction databases in clustered environment is preferable.
• Should have knowledge of basic ITIL fundamentals and certification would be preferred.
• Support Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019/2022/2025 databases, SSIS and SSRS and SSAS Services.
• Implement and support Microsoft Clustering Services, Always On and Log shipping, replication
• Knowledge of SQL Server tools (Profiler, SSMS, PerfMon, DMVs, system sprocs).
• Experience of handling priority incidents
• Experience of backup tools like – CommVault, litespeed
• Experience of monitoring tool like – Foglight, AppDynamics, Redgate
• Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components.
• Must have very good experience of AWS
• Experience of managing AWS databases on PostgreSQL,MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server
• Understanding and Practical experience of PowerShell scripting.
• Assisting developer in reviewing the code
• Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Basic Knowledge and awareness of networking and storage concept.
• Proficient in performance tuning, monitoring, backup, recovery, and security.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills, oral and written communications skills, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible, work independently or as part of a team, and ability to self-motivate and be proactive.
• Should be comfortable browsing a query execution plan and understand how to use it to identify opportunities for optimization.
• Understanding of potential lock escalations, deadlocks, isolation levels etc is vital
• Candidates having Database Administrators certification will be preferred

Total Experience Expected: 06-08 years

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
