Job summary

Sapwood Ventures in Bengaluru is seeking a seasoned Mould Design Engineer to design, develop, and validate injection, blow, and roto moulds for a bio‑composite product line. You will create detailed CAD models and drawings, perform mould flow analyses, and collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to meet stringent requirements.

The role requires 5–6 years of hands-on mould design experience, proficiency in SolidWorks/CATIA/Pro/E, and knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university.
  • 5 to 6 years of hands-on experience in mould design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/E, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of mould flow simulation software (Moldflow, Moldex3D, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and mould manufacturing processes (EDM, CNC, wire-cut).
  • Experience with compression or transfer moulding is a strong advantage given our biocomposite material mix.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate moulds for bio-composite product line.

  • Conduct mould flow analysis to optimise gate location, cooling channels, and wall thickness for crop-fibre composite materials.
  • Collaborate with product designers and manufacturing engineers to translate product requirements into tooling specifications.
  • Oversee mould fabrication at vendor facilities and manage trial runs, validations, and first-article inspections.
  • Identify and resolve tooling defects including warpage, sink marks, short shots, and flash specific to bio-composite behaviour.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

Design, develop, and validate injection moulds, Blow moulds, Roto moulds for bio-composite product line

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent software
  • Conduct mould flow analysis to optimise gate location, cooling channels, and wall thickness for crop-fibre composite materials
  • Collaborate with product designers and manufacturing engineers to translate product requirements into tooling specifications
  • Oversee mould fabrication at vendor facilities and manage trial runs, validations, and first-article inspections
  • Identify and resolve tooling defects including warpage, sink marks, short shots, and flash specific to bio-composite behaviour
  • Maintain and continuously improve existing mould tooling to extend life and reduce cycle time
  • Document mould specifications, maintenance schedules, and change logs in line with ISO quality standards
  • Evaluate and onboard tooling vendors; manage cost, quality, and delivery of outsourced mould components
  • Stay current on composite mould materials, surface treatment technologies, and sustainable tooling practice
Preferred candidate profile

B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university

  • 5 to 6 years of hands‑on experience in mould design and development
  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/E, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of mould flow simulation software (Moldflow, Moldex3D, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, and mould manufacturing processes (EDM, CNC, wire‑cut)
  • Experience with compression or transfer moulding is a strong advantage given our biocomposite material mix
  • Familiarity with natural fibre or filled polymer composites will be preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOM structures, and process FMEAs
Good to Have
  • Exposure to sustainable or bio‑based material processing
  • Experience working with automotive Tier‑1 suppliers or building materials manufacturers
  • Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFMA principles
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality management systems
