Job summary

Mahindra And Mahindra Ltd. is seeking an experienced professional to lead plastic injection mold design and tooling development in Chennai. The role involves guiding a team, coordinating with design and engineering groups, and ensuring mold quality and production readiness.

The candidate should have strong knowledge of plastics molding processes, tool steels, textures, and negotiation skills, with 10–15 years of experience in the field.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Injection Molds, Plastics, Mold design and manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of tool steels and textures for molding applications.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Experience in leading a team and managing people.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality plastics tooling and parts.
• Lead and manage a team of 5–10 members to execute molding projects.
• Coordinate with Design, Engineering, SSU, CDMM, Tier-one suppliers, and toolmakers.
• Select tool rooms and negotiate mold prices with Tier-one/Toolmakers.
• Attend mold trials and ensure final product quality and texture alignment.
• Prepare mold specification sheets and establish part inspection methods.
• Train tooling team and ensure preventive maintenance of tools.

Job description

Description of the job and key result areas:

1. To Develop Right Quality Plastics Tooling and Plastic Parts.
2. To Manage a Team of 10 People (now 5 -6) in executing the Role defined.
3. Should be able to get the work done and give directions/decisions to Team whenever required.
4. To be competent to work with Design, Engineering, SSU, CDMM, Tier one and Toolmakers.
5. To be able to select Tool rooms to enable create a Basket with Whom M and M can work.
6. To do Mold Manufacturing Feasibility of all Plastic parts in scope.
7. To Work on Injection Molds should be costing to give target Prices to SSU/CDMM.
8. Should be able to Negotiate Mold Prices with Tier one/Toolmaker and support SSU on the same when required.
9. Should have knowledge on Plastic Parts, Engineering, Mold Design, and Mold manufacturing Processes, Mold Making and Plastics Processing.
10. To Make Mold specification sheets for all plastic parts.
11. Should be able to decide Tool steels in Mold making, Cycle times for all the parts in scope.
12. To do Tool Design review, Mold Flow review
13. Should be capable of doing Trouble shooting related to Tool, part design and Process.
14. To Attend Mold Trials Before Texturing and ensure Mold and Part Qualify the Final Product requirements.
15. To Assess if any Part Design changes are required for improving Part and Tool Quality.
16. To be able to do Texture mapping on Parts.
17. To fix Texture related issues in Tools and parts.
18. To Support CDMM, CMF, Engineering and Design teams for Part Approval.
19. To Support Tier one (part supplier) and Toolmaker on Technical, commercial issues.
20. To Add Value in part design, vehicle fitment.
21. To Buy off Tools with Mold Inspection and to put them in Production after Texturing.
22. To support Tier one in Mold and Process installation as required.
23. To support in deciding Part Inspection methods only if support asked.
24. To ensure Tool and Part Qualifies functionally and Dimensionally.
25. To give Tooling Budget when asked for apart from estimations given
26. To train the Tooling Team and Others as and when required.
27. To ensure Preventive maintenance of Tools
28. To do Health check-up of Tools in Production
