Job summary

Exponent Energy in Bengaluru, India seeks a hardware product leader to own end‑to‑end development from prototype to mass production. You will align cross‑functional teams to deliver a customer‑centric product with uptime, range, and charging performance as top priorities.

You will drive risk management, design‑to‑cost decisions, and on‑site production involvement, while guiding field issue resolution and rapid iteration to scale the product in the EV ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • Experience taking a hardware product from concept to production with field failure fixes.
  • Strong fundamentals and first‑principles thinking to identify and resolve risks.
  • Ability to reason from data and drive decisions based on metrics.
  • Customer-centric mindset with focus on uptime, cost per km, range and performance.
  • Hands‑on experience on production lines, with suppliers, and in the field.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate people who do not report directly to you.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and without a defined playbook.
  • 5–10 years of hardware product experience; EV exposure is a bonus.
  • Demonstrated ownership, bias toward action, and resilience after setbacks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross‑functional team to design, validate, manufacture, and scale a hardware product from prototype to mass production.
  • Assign the right people to problems and own the chosen approach.
  • Drive design reviews and establish validation to prove customer performance.
  • Ensure customer outcomes drive all trade‑offs around uptime, cost per km, range, and charging.
  • Identify risks early across engineering, process, operations, and service and drive mitigation to closure.
  • Own design‑to‑cost and should‑cost analyses through the product cycle.
  • Manage module budget including R&D, homologation, testing, tooling.
  • Close the loop from field failures back to design.

Job description

ROLE
  • Own product development end-to-end: lead a cross‑functional team to design, validate, manufacture, and take the product from the first prototype to a thousand units in the field
  • Ensure the right people are assigned to each problem and own the chosen angle of attack
  • Drive design and gate reviews and establish validation that proves the product performs for the customer
  • Make the customer outcome the north‑star, aligning every trade‑off with uptime, cost per km, range, charge time, service turnaround, and vehicle performance
  • Identify risk early across engineering, process, operations, and service, and own mitigation to closure
  • Own the product cost target: drive design‑to‑cost and should‑cost analysis throughout the product cycle
  • Own the module budget through product development, including R&D, homologation, testing, and tooling
  • Close the loop from field failure back to design
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least one hardware product taken from concept through production stabilization, with experience seeing it fail in the field and fixing it
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and first‑principles thinking to identify risk, resolve it, and make trade‑off decisions
  • Strong analytical mindset; ability to reason from data and drive data‑based decisions
  • Product obsession: deep understanding of the customer, their willingness to pay, and alternative solutions
  • Hands‑on experience on the production line, with suppliers, and in the field
  • Proven ability to make decisions with conviction and pivot strategy when evidence changes
  • Experience leading and coordinating people who do not report directly to you
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building things without a playbook
  • 5–10 years of experience building hardware products that reach customers; exposure to the EV ecosystem is a bonus
  • Demonstrated high ownership, bias toward action, quality of work, strong problem‑solving approach, intolerance for mediocrity, and resilience after setbacks
