Job summary

SGS India is seeking an experienced Microbiologist to manage and technically review food microbiology testing in a NABL-accredited laboratory. You will oversee testing, quality compliance, method validation, audits, and technical troubleshooting while guiding laboratory personnel.

Key duties include supporting regulatory requirements and method development, ensuring ISO/IEC 17025 and NABL conformity, and training staff to uphold GLP and biosafety standards.

Qualifications

• MSc in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Biotechnology or Life Sciences or equivalent.
• 57 years of relevant experience in food microbiology testing.
• Experience in an NABL-accredited food testing laboratory preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, method validation/verification, audits, and quality management systems.
• Knowledge of FSSAI, ISO, AOAC, BAM, and export testing requirements.
• Experience in PCR/RT-PCR or rapid microbiological methods is advantageous.
• Experience in a multinational TIC/testing organization is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform, supervise, and review food microbiology testing using culture-based and rapid methods.
• Conduct testing for food pathogens, hygiene indicators, and environmental monitoring.
• Ensure testing per validated methods, SOPs, and lab procedures.
• Review raw data, calculations, QC results, and test reports as per authorization matrix.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, NABL, FSSAI regulations and SGS procedures.
• Handle OOS/OOT, non-conformances, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Support method validation/verification, measurement uncertainty, PT/ILC, equipment qualification, calibration and quality activities.
• Participate in internal audits, NABL assessments, customer audits and regulatory inspections.
• Support scope extension, method addition, and accreditation/recognition activities.
• Provide technical support for FSSAI, APEDA, EIC/Export Inspection and other requirements.
• Train and guide microbiologists, analysts, and trainees.
• Ensure biosafety, hygiene, contamination control, and GLP requirements are followed.

• Review raw data, calculations, QC results, and test reports as per the authorization matrix.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017, NABL requirements, FSSAI regulations, and applicable SGS quality procedures.
• Handle OOS/OOT, non-conformances, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Support method validation/verification, measurement uncertainty, PT/ILC, equipment qualification, calibration, and laboratory quality activities.
• Participate in internal audits, NABL assessments, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
