Role Overview
The Metrology Engineer will be responsible for establishing, validating, and continuously improving the measurement systems used for precision machined and electromechanical components. The role ensures dimensional accuracy, process capability, compliance with ISO 13485, and full traceability across manufacturing operations.
This position works closely with CNC programming, process engineering, and production teams to ensure robust inspection strategy and process control.
Key Responsibilities
Measurement Strategy & Inspection Planning
- Develop inspection plans based on GD&T and functional requirements.
- Define datum strategies and alignment methodology.
- Establish sampling plans (First Article, In-Process, Final Inspection).
- Support tolerance stack-up analysis with design team.
CMM Programming & Operation
- Develop and validate CMM programs for 3-axis and complex 5-axis components.
- Optimize probe paths (touch trigger / scanning).
- Select appropriate styli configurations.
- Validate measurement repeatability and reduce probe-induced error.
GD&T Interpretation
- Interpret and validate geometric tolerances per ASME Y14.5.
- Evaluate positional, profile, flatness, concentricity, and form tolerances.
- Ensure correct datum hierarchy application.
Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
- Conduct Gauge R&R studies.
- Establish measurement uncertainty budgets.
- Monitor measurement repeatability and reproducibility.
- Maintain calibration schedules and traceability.
Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Monitor Cp, Cpk, and process stability.
- Analyze trends and variation patterns.
- Identify drift and potential non-conformities early.
- Support root cause investigations.
Regulatory & Documentation
- Maintain inspection records in compliance with ISO 13485.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Ensure full traceability of measurement data.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with CNC programmers and prove-out engineers.
- Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) discussions.
- Provide feedback on tolerance feasibility.
- Support continuous process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering.
- 3-8 years of experience in precision manufacturing metrology.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 preferred).
- Hands-on experience in CMM programming (Zeiss / Mitutoyo / Hexagon preferred).
- Experience with SPC and MSA tools.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 systems.
Technical Competencies

- Understanding of machining processes and tolerance limits
