Job summary

Kotecha Steel Forge And Cast Industries in Gujarat seeks a hands-on Heat Treatment & Metallurgy specialist to lead through hardening, tempering, annealing, and related processes. You will supervise metallurgical laboratory work, apply microstructure analysis, hardness testing, and case-depth measurements, and drive process improvements.

The role requires ensuring compliance with customer specs and ASTM/ISO/EN standards, supporting audits, and coordinating with Production, Quality, Maintenance

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Through Hardening processes and heat-treatment control.
• Familiarity with Induction Hardening parameters and coil setup.
• Understanding of Tempering, Stress Relieving, Annealing and Normalizing.
• Awareness of ADI / Austempering metallurgical requirements.
• Experience in hardness testing and case-depth measurement.
• Proficiency in metallography and microstructure interpretation.
• Ability to analyse heat-treatment defects and process capability.
• Basic knowledge of CCT/TTT diagrams and Fe-C phase relationships.
• Knowledge of steel and cast-iron metallurgy and quenching concepts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical inspection reports and heat-treatment records.
• Support customer audits and technical discussions related to metallurgy and heat treatment.
• Investigate customer/internal rejections using Root Cause Analysis, 8D, 5 Why.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings and ASTM/ISO/EN standards.
• Monitor heat-treatment process capability and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support trials for new materials, heat-treatment cycles and process parameters.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance and external heat-treatment suppliers.
• Maintain calibration and verification records for laboratory and testing equipment.

Job description

1. Heat Treatment & Metallurgy

Hands-on knowledge of Through Hardening, including furnace heating, quenching and tempering.

Knowledge of Induction Hardening parameters, coil setup, heating, quenching and hardness control.

Knowledge of Tempering, Stress Relieving, Annealing, Normalizing and other heat-treatment processes.

Knowledge of ADI (Austempered Ductile Iron) process and metallurgical requirements.

Prepare and control heat-treatment process parameters, work instructions and process sheets.

Analyze heat-treatment defects such as hardness variation, soft spots, distortion, cracking and improper microstructure.

Support development and validation of new heat-treatment processes.

2. Metallurgical Laboratory

Hands-on experience with metallurgical laboratory instruments such as:

Optical / Inverted Metallurgical Microscope

Micro Vickers / Vickers Hardness Tester

Rockwell Hardness Tester

Sample Cutting Machine

Mounting Press

Grinding & Polishing Machine

Metallographic sample preparation equipment

Conduct and evaluate microstructure, hardness, case depth and metallurgical examination.

Knowledge of grain flow, grain size, decarburization, ferrite/pearlite, martensite, bainite and retained austenite evaluation.

3. Quality & Customer Requirements

Prepare metallurgical inspection reports and heat-treatment records.

Support customer audits and technical discussions related to metallurgy and heat treatment.
