Job summary

TheCodingShef is seeking a Member of Technical Staff for the Android Platform (AOSP) to work remotely from Bengaluru or Seattle-area. You will dive into platform services, HALs, policy and build issues beyond app level, contributing to Android-level fixes and customer discussions.

We value depth in cellular modem or Linux kernel, experience shipping system components, and comfort arguing with data in English. This is a hands-on platform role, not app development.

Qualifications

• Shipped a system service, daemon or privileged component on a production AOSP-based build.
• Owned its SELinux policy, init configuration or platform signing.
• Carried a device or vendor tree through a major Android version upgrade.
• Root-caused a platform failure and fixed it in platform code.
• Ability to explain root cause to customer engineers in English.

Responsibilities

• Join Android platform investigations and remediations with a founder and take over when needed.
• Attend customer calls as the Android platform expert: explain failures, reasons, and fixes.
• Validate platform analysis against device behavior and point out corrections.
• Encode platform reasoning (services, binder, HALs, init, SELinux, vendor/system split) for accuracy.

Never pay to apply for a job.## About the rolePerformanceAOSP / PlatformBe the second person on the team who can go all the way down into Android: the platform services, the HALs, the policy and the build.Most Android failures that reach us aren't app bugs. They're a system service that stalled, a HAL that returned something the framework didn't expect, or a policy denial nobody noticed until a device shipped. Our platform investigates those failures from the files a device produces and proposes a fix against the customer's own source. You'll make its Android reasoning sharper, check its answers against what really happened, and join customer calls as the person who knows the platform well enough to argue with it.We'd especially like to meet you if you also bring cellular modem or Linux kernel depth. Android meets the modem at the radio interface and sits on the kernel everywhere, so either combination makes you one person where we'd otherwise need two.We aren't in a hurry to fill this seat, and we'd rather wait for the right person than hire the closest one. This is not an app development role. You'll work below the SDK.\\*\\*A note on location\\*\\*This role is remote, with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with Pacific or IST based on location. We'd prefer someone who can be on-site in Seattle or Bengaluru, but it isn't required.
