Job summary

Orbits India in Maharashtra seeks an experienced mechanical design engineer with SolidWorks expertise to develop 3D models, assemblies and 2D fabrication drawings for metal parts.

You will prepare BOMs, DXF files for laser cutting, and assembly instructions; coordinate with production teams to ensure manufacturability; apply tolerances and GD&T, support prototype development and design validation.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of experience in mechanical design within a metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment.
• Strong background in SolidWorks, mechanical design principles, sheetmetal fabrication, and welded assemblies.
• Knowledge of tolerances, fits, and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models, assemblies, and 2D fabrication drawings in SolidWorks.
• Prepare BOMs, DXF files for laser cutting, and assembly instructions.
• Coordinate with production, fabrication, and assembly teams for manufacturability.
• Modify designs based on production feedback and performance issues.
• Conduct design calculations, material selection, and structural analysis.
• Support prototype development and design validation/testing.
• Ensure designs comply with internal standards and customer specs.
• Maintain documentation and revision control for design files.
• Provide technical support to production, maintenance, quality teams.
• Perform other engineering tasks essential to operations.

Required Skill Set

Strong hands-on experience in SolidWorks 3D modeling, assembly design, sheetmetal design, and fabrication drawings

• Ability to create detailed technical drawings, BOMs, exploded views, and manufacturing documentation
• Knowledge of mechanical components, tolerances, fits, and GD&T
• Experience in designing metal fabrication parts, welded structures, jigs, fixtures, and assemblies
• Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFMEA is an advantage
• Experience in product improvement, reverse engineering, and prototype development
