Job summary

TDW is seeking a mechanical engineer who will design, develop, customize and sustain TDW products for customer applications.

The role supports senior engineers and collaborates across engineering disciplines to resolve issues and learn new skills.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with 3D modeling, tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA and DFMEA.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and machine design.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methods (Lean/Six Sigma).
• Experience with PLM systems and engineering change processes.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to assist in design of components and tests.
• Document design calculations, tolerance analysis, and CAD details.
• Assist creating product manuals and maintenance documents.
• Support engineering change requests for documentation and design.
• Estimate durations for development, assemble prototypes and validate.
• Support test programs and compile results and analyses.

Overview

Responsible for using mechanical engineering principles to design, develop, customize, implement, test and/or sustain TDW products and services solutions for customer applications. This is an individual contributor role that works under the guidance of more senior engineers and collaborates with individuals from other engineering specialties to solve specific engineering issues as defined.

Key Responsibilities

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Applies knowledge of engineering principles to assist in design of components, products, tests and systems.
• Assists with documenting design calculations, tolerance analysis, concept development, 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and details design activities.
• Assists in the creation of product documents (e.g. build and/or operating/maintenance manuals).
• Assists with engineering change requests that provide needed improvements to documentation and design.
• Assists with estimating durations for application development, assists with prototype assemblies and validation processes and meets deadlines.
• Assists with test programs, including plan development, running tests and compiling test results and analysis reports.
• Reports to engineering manager and will work under the guidance of engineers and senior engineers to learn, grow and develop skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Familiarity (can be classroom) with 3D modeling, tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, and DFMEA. Understanding of FEA software (simulation and ANSYS preferred) and solid modeling software (e.g. Siemens NX, SolidWorks, etc.)
• Problem solving skills and understanding of manufacturing processes and machine design principles
• Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. DFM/A, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
• Familiarity with PLM system, software (e.g. TeamCenter, MasterControl), and engineering change processes
• Good communication skills - both verbal and written
• Competent with MS office
