Job summary

Philips is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join the Mechatronic Development Cluster within the IGT Fixed Systems R&D team. You will contribute to the development of mechanical designs for medical devices, including enclosures, sheet metal, plastics, and assemblies, using V-model processes.

Responsibilities include thermal simulations, FEA, design reviews, and ensuring documentation such as FMEA and DFMA are maintained.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant R&D experience in medical domain.
  • Experience in product design, development, and maintenance of released products.
  • Hands on experience in NPI End to End workflows.
  • Excellent design documentation skills and proficient English communication.

  • Support sourcing strategy including supplier selection and contract management.

Mechanical Designer

Mechanical Designer As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of various mechanical designs like user interfaces, switches, display enclosures including plastic & metal, ceiling suspension, thermal simulation, Packaging and labelling etc. in the new product designs for Philips Image Guided therapy. In this role, you will contribute to developing components and system elements using the V-model methodology while aligning with user needs, product requirements, and business objectives. You will apply internal and external research insights, leverage emerging technologies, and ensure robust system-level thinking throughout the design lifecycle. Your work will contribute directly to delivering high-quality, reliable, and innovative solutions that enhance performance and enable exceptional clinical experiences.

Your Role

Within new product introduction projects and product life cycle activities you contribute to requirements, integral design, implementation, test and integration in accordance with the higher-level specifications. Including alignment with all the relevant internal and external stakeholders such as operations and procurement. Develop/ Review thermal simulation models, FEA, stack up tolerance etc. Good understanding of manufacturing processes related to sheet metal, casting, plastics and machining parts. Ensure that there is proper documentation for the design (e.g. Design calculations, FMEA, DFM, DFMA, FMEA, VAVE, Field data analysis, verification reporting); Ensure the mutual consistency and efficient integration of the separate modules in modular, easy-to-maintain units that meets the product specification. Contribute to the sourcing strategy including make-buy decisions, supplier selection, and contract management. Creating and/or participating in design reviews and risk assessments (e.g. FMEA) Alignment with other functions (Electrical, mechatronics, norm compliance, test and validation, purchase, quality, other). Conducting early integration tests on predefined prototypes and addressing supplier issues will also be your responsibility. You will follow up on any necessary actions. Your role will require performing all tasks in line with established department processes. You are a part of Infrastructure department in Mechatronic Development Cluster within the IGT Fixed Systems R&D organization. The department consists of an open and multi-cultural team working towards new product introductions (NPI) of image guided therapy system.

You are fit if
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant R&D working experience in medical domain
  • Experience in product design, development, and maintenance of released products
  • Hands on experience in NPI End to End way of working
  • Analytical and Methodological mindset and good hold on processes
  • Excellent design documentation skills
  • Result oriented and self-steering with a problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to work independently & to act proactively
  • Good command of English (both written and verbal)
  • Work experience in Agile Release Trains following SAFe framework will be a plus
  • Quality mindset, A Six Sigma Green Belt will be a plus
  • Experience with Regulatory aspects, Knowledge of FDA guidelines and compliance requirements for medical (ISO13485, FDA) will be preferred
  • Translating customer needs into technical requirements and then creating mechatronic solutions
How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in- person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations. This role is an office-based role.
