Job summary

Philips India Bangalore is seeking a Lead Software Technologist I - UI to lead the development of intuitive clinical UI applications in high-acuity environments.

You will collaborate with UX teams, clinicians and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure usability, safety and regulatory compliance while mentoring platform and application teams on modern UI technologies and embedded Linux stacks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Software Engineering/IT or equivalent.
  • 15+ years hands-on front-end/UI heavy development for embedded or regulated systems.
  • Strong UI/UX collaboration with clinicians and regulatory awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of intuitive clinical UI applications for high-acuity environments.
  • Mentor platform and application teams on architecture and embedded systems.
  • Enforce quality standards and medical device software processes (IEC 62304).
  • Collaborate with Product, QA, Regulatory and other engineering leads.
  • Drive AI-enabled tooling adoption to improve productivity.
  • Ensure security, privacy and compliance across medical devices.

Job Title Lead Software Technologist I - UI Job Description

Minimum required Education: Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent.


Your role:


  • Lead development of intuitive clinical user interface applications used by clinicians in high‑acuity environments.

  • Collaborate with UX teams and clinicians to ensure applications meet usability and safety requirements.

  • Provide technical leadership across modern UI technologies and supporting C++ layers for embedded devices.

  • Lead and mentor Platform development teams on software architecture, design patterns, and embedded systems best practices through daily hands‑on collaboration.

  • Lead and mentor application development teams on application services for physiological data visualization, and clinical decision support features.

  • Establish and enforce quality standards, development methodologies, and coding practices that drive continuous improvement in software reliability and performance.

  • Conduct rigorous code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to ensure adherence to medical device software standards (IEC 62304, FDA regulations).

  • Optimize application performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks in resource‑constrained embedded Linux environments.

  • Drive the adoption of AI‑enabled development tools and demonstrate measurable productivity improvements across the team.

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Product Management, QA, Regulatory, and other engineering leads to define and deliver features.

  • Support software lifecycle management activities including sustaining engineering, defect resolution, and platform evolution.

  • Build a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning within the Bangalore development organization.

  • Represent the technical voice of the team in architectural decisions and strategic technical discussions.


You're the right fit if:


  • 15+ years of hands‑on experience in front‑end / UI‑heavy application development for embedded or regulated systems, with strong embedded Linux exposure.

  • Deep expertise in modern C++ (C++11/14/17/20), including templates, STL, and design patterns.

  • Deep expertise in modern front‑end technologies (TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS), UI architecture, design systems, and performance‑critical rendering for embedded or device‑hosted applications.

  • Strong command of object‑oriented programming, memory management, multithreading, and performance optimization.

  • Experience with debugging, profiling, and developer‑level testing (unit, component, BDD with GTest/Catch2).

  • Strong hands‑on proven experience of using AI Agent Technology as development companion.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing medical or safety‑critical applications.

  • Hands‑on experience with medical communication protocols (e.g., HL7, FHIR, IEEE 11073 SDC, DICOM) (preferred).

  • Experience with technical documentation, code reviews, and compliance with medical software development processes (e.g., IEC 62304).

  • Experience developing on embedded Linux incl. Yocto/OpenEmbedded.

  • Understanding of cybersecurity and data privacy requirements for medical devices.

  • Familiarity with Linux‑based OS stacks tailored for medical devices, including secure boot, sandboxing, and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Proficiency in GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/SAFe methodologies.

  • Understanding of patient monitoring systems, medical device safety, and healthcare regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to collaborate with clinicians, product managers, and global teams to ensure solutions meet clinical and business needs.

  • Experience in healthcare or monitoring systems domain (preferred).

  • Ability to influence technical strategy and foster the innovation culture.

For our office‑based teams, this means working in‑person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full‑time presence in the company’s facilities.
