Job summary

Godrej & Boyce (G&B) invites engineers to join its motor solutions unit in Shirwal near Pune. You will design and develop specialized electric motors, including IEC/NEMA frame 1ph/3ph, BLDC and geared variants to meet product and customer requirements.

You will participate in design reviews, apply DFMEA and root cause analysis, optimize costs, and coordinate with domestic and overseas partners to ensure quality and compliance. This role emphasizes IMS standards and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop specialized electric motors, ensuring design of custom-built motors, IEC/NEMA frames 1ph/3ph electrical motors and specialized applications (Geared, BLDC, Actuator, Brake) to meet product and customer requirements, including reliability, safety, cost competitiveness, and legal obligations, with micro planning of design and development activities.
• Participating in design reviews, involvement in new component development, prototype making, application testing and post-testing corrections for quality maturation; use of QFD, DFMEA, root cause analysis, DFSS in design projects; manage budgets to control material costs; furnish design documents for new product design and development.
• Cost optimization and value engineering by identifying opportunities in existing designs, redesigning motors with new materials/technology to reduce cost while maintaining robustness and performance.
• Communication and engagement with stakeholders, including domestic and overseas customers and suppliers; provide project updates and data; conduct design reviews with team, customers, and cross-functional teams for timely execution; provide decisions for corrections in manufacturing or at suppliers.
• Design validation through internal testing to meet operational and environmental requirements; conduct application tests in coordination with marketing; perform endurance tests as needed; coordinate with Electrical/Electronic design teams to meet customer requirements.
• Benchmarking of competitor motors for construction, fitment, lubrication, electromagnetic and insulation systems; document data and learnings; implement improvements across applicable areas while respecting IP; study benchmark results and formulate design/specification updates.
• Integrated Management System (IMS) documentation for every design project; ensure departmental IMS documentation and prepare for audits; participate actively in Kaizens and Business Excellence initiatives; comply with safe working environment standards.

Job Description:

1. Design and develop specialized electric motors Ensuring design of custom-built special purpose motors, IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Frame/ NEMA (National Electrical Manufactures Association) frames 1ph/3ph electrical Motors and Specialized application motors (Geared, BLDC (Brushless Direct Current), Actuator, Brake etc.) to meet all the requirements of the product & Customer including Application fitment requirements, reliability, safety, cost competitiveness, legal & statutory requirements & implied requirements. Ensuring micro planning of design and development activities.
2. Participating in design reviews Ensuring involvement in new component development, Prototype making, application testing and post testing design correction for quality maturation. Using of appropriate tools like QFD (Quality function deployment), DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), Root cause analysis, DFSS (Design in Six Sigma) in execution of design projects Managing design within the budgets to control material costs Understanding project inputs, requirements and furnishing design documents for new product design and development activities. Evolution of Technical specification and project cost proposal for Electrical Motors Deriving motor technical specification based on end application and submit it to customer/ marketing. Ensuring estimation of project costing, tooling investments, Testing and approval costing, Manpower requirement data to new design projects.
3. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering Identifying of value engineering opportunity in existing design/ Legacy design. Redesigning motors considering new material, new technology and alternative manufacturing methods to reduce cost with similar or better motor robustness and performance.
4. Communication and engagement with stakeholders/ CFT Communicating with the Domestic and Overseas customers, Suppliers related to design projects to maintain and provide project related update/ Data as required. Conducting Design review with team, with customer and with cross functional team for timely execution of design projects. Providing decisions for corrections of problems arising during manufacturing / at suppliers.
5. Design Validation Ensuring the required testing is conducted internally to meet the operational and environmental test requirements. Conducting Application tests in coordination with marketing on field to ensure all the motor operational and environmental requirements are met. Conducting endurance tests as applicable to ensure product life cycle requirements are ensured. Coordinating with Electrical / Electronic design team to ensure all the customer requirements are met.
6. Benchmarking of competitor electrical motors for construction, fitment, lubrication, electromagnetic and insulation system. Note down all data and derive right learnings. Doing the required improvements in existing design Ensuring that in new design add additional features as per benchmark without violating IP (Internet Protocol). Implementation of the improvements horizontally in applicable areas. Studying and analyzing benchmark test results. Deriving the co-relation with end application. Formulating the specification for design & development activity as applicable.
7. Integrated Management System (IMS) Documentation Fulfilling the IMS documentation for every design project Ensuring departmental IMS documentation preparation and Facing Audits.
