Job summary

Nokia in Bengaluru is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to drive the design and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical test fixtures, environmental test systems, and tooling for research, validation, and manufacturing of next‑gen optical networking hardware.

The role collaborates with cross‑functional engineering teams, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturers across the full product lifecycle, from concept to deployment, tackling thermal and integration challenges to enable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Proficient in CAD software and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience in product development, validation, or manufacturing.
  • Experience with Creo Parametric, Windchill, and Agile PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and fabrication vendors.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype assembly, machine shop operations and test fixture construction.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical/electromechanical test fixtures and tooling to support validation and manufacturing.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and documentation for test equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop reliable, manufacturable test solutions.
  • Partner with technicians, suppliers, and vendors through design, build, troubleshooting, validation and implementation.
  • Perform engineering analyses, tolerance studies, and design evaluations; support assembly and testing.

Job Description:

  • This role on Nokias Optical Network Infrastructure New Product Introduction team offers the opportunity to drive the design and development of custom mechanical and electromechanical test fixtures, environmental test systems, and specialized tooling that enable research and development, product validation, reliability testing, and manufacturing support for next-generation optical networking products. As a Mechanical Design Engineer II, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to transform technical requirements into robust, reliable, and manufacturable solutions. The position spans the full product development lifecycle, including concept generation, detailed mechanical design, engineering analysis, documentation, fabrication support, assembly, troubleshooting, validation, and system deployment. This role is ideally suited for an engineer who enjoys solving complex mechanical, thermal, and integration challenges while contributing to the successful introduction of innovative optical networking technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical/electromechanical test fixtures and tooling to support product validation, qualification, and manufacturing.

  • Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and configuration-controlled documentation for test equipment and related hardware.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop reliable, manufacturable test solutions.

  • Partners with technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing vendors throughout design, build, troubleshooting, validation, and implementation to ensure robust hardware solutions.

  • Perform engineering analyses, tolerance studies, and design evaluations while also providing support during assembly, testing, and issue resolution.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.

  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across engineering teams, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing partners in a fast-paced environment.

  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience in product development, validation, reliability, or manufacturing environments.

  • Experience with Creo Parametric, Windchill, and Agile PLM systems.
