Job summary

Onward Technologies in Pune, Maharashtra, invites a seasoned Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of sheet metal, casting, and electromechanical components from concept to production release. You will deliver detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks, Inventor, and AutoCAD, ensuring GD&T and manufacturing standards are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 5–8 years of mechanical design experience with sheet metal, casting, and electromechanical components.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor, and AutoCAD is mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing/assembly processes.
• Experience with DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and design validation.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop sheet metal, casting, and electromechanical components and assemblies from concept through production release.
• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD, ensuring GD&T and manufacturing standards are followed.
• Drive New Product Development (NPD) activities including concept generation, design reviews, DFMEA, prototyping, and design validation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and sourcing teams to ensure designs are optimized for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Work closely with vendors and suppliers for sheet metal fabrication and casting processes, including tooling and process feasibility discussions.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and basic engineering calculations to validate design robustness.
• Prepare and maintain BOMs, engineering change notes (ECNs), and design documentation as per NPD process requirements.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electromechanical assemblies.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (electrical, quality, manufacturing, and project management) to ensure timely product development milestones.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, with strong exposure to sheet metal, casting, and electromechanical components.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD is mandatory.
• Sound knowledge of New Product Development (NPD) processes and design lifecycle stages.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing/assembly processes.
• Familiarity with DFMEA, DFM/DFA principles, and design validation practices.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with external vendors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
