Job Summary

The Manufacturing Costing Engineer is responsible for estimating manufacturing costs for mechanical components and assemblies by analyzing engineering drawings, raw material requirements, machining processes, cycle times, tooling costs, labor costs, and overheads. The role involves developing accurate cost estimates, preparing cost breakdowns, supporting quotation activities, and identifying opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining quality and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare manufacturing cost estimates for new and existing mechanical components.


• Analyze 2D engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and customer specifications


• Analyze machining sequences and manufacturing process plans.


• Calculate raw material requirements based on component dimensions and material grade, and estimate raw material weight and Cost.


• Estimate operation-wise cycle times for CNC turning, CNC milling, Wire EDM, HMC, boring, grinding, and other manufacturing processes.


• Calculate machine-hour costs and machining costs based on cycle time and machine rates.


• Calculate component-wise and operation-wise manufacturing costs.


• Prepare cost breakdowns for individual components, subassemblies, and finished products.

Required Technical Skills

• Manufacturing cost estimation and cost breakdown analysis.


• Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes.


• Cost estimation for CNC and conventional machining processes.


• Engineering drawing interpretation.


• RFQ analysis and quotation preparation.


• Machining cycle time estimation.


• Knowledge of Excel-based costing models.

Software Skills

• Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookup functions, and pivot tables.
