Job summary

Novature Tech is seeking a detail-oriented Manual Test Engineer with strong API testing experience in an agile quality engineering team. You will validate backend services, APIs, and security, collaborating with developers, product owners, and DevOps to ensure high-quality releases.

You must have 4–6 years in software testing, with at least 2+ years in API testing, and a BE/B.Tech or equivalent practical experience.

Qualifications

• Pure testing experience needed throughout the career timeline.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute manual test cases for web and backend applications based on requirements.
• Perform API testing (REST and SOAP) to validate structures, status codes, headers, payloads, authentication and error handling.
• Work with Postman collections/environments and other API testing tools like Swagger/SoapUI.
• Understand API automation of regression suites using Postman/Newman or Rest Assured.
• Conduct integration, end-to-end, and contract testing between microservices and downstream systems.
• Validate data with SQL queries for data integrity.
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, sanity, negative, and exploratory testing.
• Log and track defects using JIRA/Azure DevOps and collaborate with developers to resolve issues.
• Validate API security like OAuth2.0, JWT, Basic Auth; assist performance testing efforts with basic JMeter knowledge.
• Contribute to test plans, strategies, RTMs, and daily/weekly test summaries.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies like sprint planning and stand-ups.

About the Role:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Manual Test Engineer with strong hands-on experience in API testing to join our Quality Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for validating the functionality, reliability, performance, and security of backend services and APIs, ensuring high-quality releases across our products. You will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment.

Experience:

4 to 6 years of overall experience in software testing, with at least 2+ years of hands-on API testing experience. Transformation from Non-tech to Tech role is not considerable, Pure testing experience needed throughout the career timeline.

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and execute comprehensive manual test cases for web and backend applications based on business and functional requirements.
• Perform API testing (REST and SOAP) to validate request/response structures, status codes, headers, payload schemas, authentication, and error handling.
• Work extensively with Postman (collections, environments, pre-request scripts, test scripts) and other API testing tools (e.g., Swagger, SoapUI).
• Understanding about API automation of regression suites using Postman/Newman or Rest Assured (scripted validation of API responses).
• Conduct integration testing, end-to-end testing, and contract testing between microservices and downstream systems.
• Validate database data integrity by writing SQL queries (joins, stored procedures, data flow validation).
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, sanity, negative, and exploratory testing.
• Identify, log, and track defects using tools like JIRA / Azure DevOps, and collaborate with developers to reproduce and resolve issues.
• Validate API security aspects such as authentication (OAuth 2.0, JWT, Basic Auth), authorization, and input validation.
• Support performance testing awareness by collaborating with the performance team (basic knowledge of JMeter preferred).
• Contribute to test plans, test strategies, requirement traceability matrices (RTM), and daily/weekly test summary reports.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies — sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.

Good to Have:

• Exposure to API automation using __Rest Assured (Java)__, __Newman__, or __Karate Framework__.
• Basic knowledge of performance testing tools (__JMeter__) for API load testing.
• Understanding of __CI/CD pipelines__ (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure Pipelines) and running API tests within them.
• Familiarity with __monitoring/logging tools__ (Splunk, Kibana, Grafana) for debugging API issues.
• Exposure to mobile API testing, Kafka/message queue validation, or GraphQL.
• ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Level certification.
