Job summary

Western Union seeks an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the Risk and Compliance Operations Investigation Platform, guiding a multi-engineer team in building a next-generation Case Management solution for investigators and analysts globally.

You will own hiring, performance management, and drive cloud adoption, AI integration, and DevSecOps practices while collaborating with Product, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Enterprise Architecture teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in CS/IT or related field.
• 12+ years software engineering experience with 5+ years leading teams.
• Strong expertise in Java (17/21), Spring Boot, REST APIs, Microservices, Distributed Systems, EDA, DDD, Event Sourcing, CQRS.
• Hands-on AWS experience (ECS/EKS, API Gateway, S3, PostgreSQL), Kafka, cloud-native apps, CI/CD, DevSecOps, security practices.
• Experience building scalable web apps with ReactJS/Angular, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3, micro frontends, API integrations.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted software development incl GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Amazon Q, MLOps.
• Strong understanding of security, compliance, threat modeling, Zero Trust, audit controls, enterprise delivery.
• Preferred experience in payments, AML/KYC, case management, investigations, and workflow engines.

Role Responsibilities

As a Software Engineering Manager within the Risk and Compliance Operations Investigation Platform, you'll lead development of our next-generation Case Management platform. You'll lead a team building critical technology used by investigators and analysts to identify suspicious activity, meet regulatory obligations, and protect customers worldwide.

Role Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, IT, or a related field preferred.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading and managing high-performing engineering teams (8-15+ engineers) across multiple Agile workstreams.
• Strong expertise in Java (17/21), Spring Boot, REST APIs, Microservices, Distributed Systems, Event-Driven Architecture, DDD, Event Sourcing, and CQRS.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (ECS/EKS, API Gateway, S3, PostgreSQL), Kafka, messaging platforms, cloud-native applications, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and application security practices.
• Experience building scalable web applications using ReactJS/Angular, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3, micro frontends, API integrations, and modern UI architectures.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted software development, including GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Amazon Q, code/test generation, developer productivity, intelligent workflow automation, and MLOps.
• Strong understanding of security, compliance, threat modeling, Zero Trust Architecture, audit controls, and enterprise-grade software delivery.
• Preferred experience in payments, money movement, case management platforms, AML/KYC workflows, investigations, and workflow/rules engines.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and develop engineering talent.
