Job summary

Western Union is seeking an Engineering Manager in Hyderabad, India to lead the development of our global KYC platform. You will guide a hands-on team building scalable, compliant software for onboarding, identity verification, and risk assessment at scale.

You will drive architecture, AI-assisted practices, and CI/CD maturity while collaborating with Product, Compliance, and Risk teams to deliver rapid, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional experience with 4+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience delivering enterprise applications in Agile environments.
• Strong expertise in Java (17/21 preferred) and Spring Boot; RESTful API development.

Role Responsibilities

As an Engineering Manager in Hyderabad, India, you will lead the development of our next-generation Global KYC platform. You will lead a team building mission-critical technology that enables customer verification, regulatory compliance, intelligent risk assessment, and onboarding automation for millions of customers globally. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building both exceptional software and exceptional teams. In addition to this, you will perform the role below -

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of high-performing software engineers and technical leaders.
• Drive development of scalable KYC capabilities supporting onboarding, due diligence, identity verification , and customer risk assessments.
• Partner closely with Product, Compliance, Financial Crime, Operations, and Risk teams to transform regulatory requirements into customer-centric technology solutions. Deliver services which enable rapid and effective integration with multiple 3rd party verification partners.
• Define and execute the technology roadmap for a modern cloud-native, API-first, event-driven platform.
• Champion engineering excellence through architecture reviews, automation, observability, testing, and operational maturity.
• Drive modernization initiatives that improve onboarding efficiency, platform scalability, security, and compliance readiness.
• Accelerate adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and intelligent compliance workflows.
• Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Balance product delivery, regulatory commitments, platform investments, and technical debt management.
• Communicate technology strategy, roadmap progress, risks, and opportunities to senior stakeholders and leadership teams.

Role Requirements

• 12+ years of professional experience with 4+ years in a leadership role
• Proven experience delivering enterprise applications in Agile environments
• Strong expertise in Java (17/21 preferred) ,
• Strong experience with Spring Boot and RESTful API development.
• Deep understanding of Microservices Architecture
• Expertise in distributed systems and event-driven architectures, messaging platforms
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS. (ECS/EKS , API gateways, S3, PostgreSQL)
• Familiarity building modern web applications using ReactJS or Angular, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3, Strong understanding of API integrations and UI architecture. Kaafka, Event Queues , Messaging Queues , API
• Hands-on experience leveraging GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Amazon Q, or similar AI coding assistants to improve developer productivity.
• Understanding of AI-assisted SDLC practices including code generation, test generation, code review, and documentation automation.
• Knowledge of Micro frontend Architecture , DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines, Developer Productivity and Code Quality.

Nice to have:

• Preferred in payment processing or money movement ecosystems.
• Knowledge of AML/KYC workflows and investigations.
• Exposure to Architecture of Domain Driven Design (DDD),Event Sourcing and CQRS,Workflow/Rules Engines.
• Knowledge of security and governance - Application security, threat modeling, and zero trust architecture.
