Varaha is seeking a Manager/Senior Manager, Business Development, Biochar in Gurugram to originate, structure, negotiate, and close partnerships for the VIPP program. You will engage industrial founders, CFOs, and CXOs, crafting deal terms and financial models to support deployment and growth.

You will travel across industrial clusters, represent Varaha at industry events, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive 0→1 opportunities in carbon removal and decarbonisation.

Qualifications

  • MBA from a Tier-2 or above business school.
  • 1–2 years in early-stage startups in BD, growth, commercial, strategy, or deal roles.
  • Experience in B2B partnerships, sales, deal-making, or commercial roles with high-value transactions.
  • Strong financial modelling (IRR, NPV, payback, project economics).

Responsibilities

  • Originate & close partnerships with industrial players across sectors for Varaha’s VIPP Program.
  • Build relationships with founders, CFOs, CXOs, and senior decision-makers; manage lifecycle of partnerships.

About the Role:

We are looking for a highly driven and commercially oriented professional to join our team as Manager/Senior Manager, Business Development, Biochar. This role will be responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing partnerships with industrial players for Varaha’s Biochar/VIPP program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Originate & Close Partnerships: Identify, develop, and close partnerships with industrial players across agri-processing, FMCG, metals, ceramics, textiles, and other relevant sectors for Varaha’s VIPP Program.
  • CXO & Stakeholder Relationships: Build relationships with industrial founders, promoters, CFOs, and senior decision-makers and manage partnerships through the deployment lifecycle.
  • Deal Structuring & Negotiation: Structure technical, commercial, and legal terms covering CAPEX, revenue models, operations, rights, deployment structures, and other partnership considerations; lead negotiations through closure.
  • Financial Modelling: Build financial models covering IRR, NPV, payback periods, savings, project economics, and other relevant metrics to support partner pitches and internal investment decisions.
  • Industry Analysis: Deep-dive into target industries to understand operations, fuel mix, cost structures, operational challenges, and decarbonisation needs, and tailor Varaha’s proposition accordingly.
  • Due Diligence: Evaluate DPRs, feedstock availability, plant economics, operational assumptions, and other commercial considerations for potential JVs, acquisitions, and deployment opportunities.
  • Policy & Market Intelligence: Track government schemes, industry developments, global decarbonisation trends, and emerging market requirements to identify new business opportunities.
  • Cross-functional Execution: Work closely with engineering, carbon/MRV, legal, finance, and operations teams to move opportunities from initial discussions and term sheets through contracting, deployment, and commissioning.
  • Business Development: Travel extensively across industrial clusters to build industry relationships, generate referrals, source new deals, and identify potential partners and business opportunities.
  • Exhibitions & Industry Events: Represent Varaha at trade exhibitions, conferences, industry forums, and other relevant industry platforms to build the company’s network and generate commercial opportunities.
  • 0→1 Business Building: Identify new opportunities within sustainability and decarbonisation, develop the business case, and independently drive promising ideas from concept to launch.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • 1–2 years of experience in early-stage startups, preferably in business development, growth, commercial, strategy, or deal-oriented roles.
  • MBA from a Tier-2 or above business school, with strong commercial orientation and demonstrated ability to drive outcomes.
  • Experience in B2B business development, partnerships, sales, deal-making, or commercial roles, preferably involving high-value or complex transactions.
  • Prior experience building or operating a startup/business independently will be highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of financial modelling, including ability to work with IRR, NPV, payback, savings, and project economics.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to engage effectively with founders, promoters, CXOs, CFOs, and senior business stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly proactive and comfortable with 0→1 problem-solving, ambiguity, and ownership in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Comfortable with frequent travel across industrial clusters, customer sites, exhibitions, and industry events.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand industry economics, identify commercial opportunities, and translate insights into actionable business propositions.
  • Nice-to-have experience in biochar, climate tech, carbon markets, renewable energy, industrial decarbonisation, agriculture, sustainability, or project development.
