Job summary

Vikas Forgings is seeking a seasoned Quality Leader to head quality activities in the machine shop, ensuring components meet drawings, specs, and delivery needs. You will drive process control, inspections, and continual improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities include leading quality teams, coordinating with customers and suppliers, and ensuring ISO 9001 compliance along with robust CAPA/8D reporting and QC documentation.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Additional qualification in Quality Management will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality control and inspection for machined components per drawings and control plans.
  • Develop and implement Process Control Plans, Inspection Standards, and Work Instructions.
  • Lead root-cause analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, and Pareto methods; implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate customer quality, reviews, and audits; prepare 8D, CAPA, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans.
  • Coordinate supplier quality issues and supplier audits; monitor incoming material quality.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 quality systems; conduct internal and external audits; document control.
  • Manage quality inspectors and technicians; train on drawings, measurement, and problem-solving.
  • Drive Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, SPC, Six Sigma, Lean techniques; monitor quality KPIs.

Job description

Job Purpose

To lead and manage all quality activities in the machine shop, ensuring that components are manufactured as per customer drawings, specifications, quality standards, and delivery requirements. The role is responsible for process control, inspection, rejection reduction, customer quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Control & Inspection
  • Ensure quality of machined components as per drawings, specifications, and control plans.
  • Establish and monitor incoming, in-process, and final inspection systems.
  • Ensure proper use and calibration of measuring instruments such as Vernier, Micrometer, Height Gauge, CMM, Gauges, etc.
  • Monitor critical dimensions and special characteristics.
  • Control internal rejection, rework, and customer complaints.
2. Machine Shop Process Quality
  • Develop and implement Process Control Plans, Inspection Standards, and Work Instructions.
  • Monitor CNC/VMC/HMC turning, milling, grinding, drilling, and other machining processes.
  • Identify process variation and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Conduct process audits and layered process audits.
  • Ensure first-piece approval and proper inspection at every critical stage.
3. Problem Solving
  • Lead root-cause analysis for quality problems using 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, and Pareto analysis.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Reduce rejection, rework, scrap, and customer complaints.
4. Customer Quality
  • Handle customer complaints and coordinate timely responses.
  • Prepare and review 8D reports, CAPA, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and other quality documents.
  • Coordinate customer inspections and audits.
  • Maintain customer-specific quality requirements.
5. Supplier Quality
  • Coordinate with suppliers regarding raw material and component quality issues.
  • Monitor supplier performance and incoming material quality.
  • Support supplier audits and improvement activities.
6. Quality Systems
  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System as per ISO 9001 and applicable customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality procedures and documentation.
  • Conduct internal audits and support external/customer audits.
  • Maintain quality records and ensure proper document control.
7. Team Management
  • Lead and supervise quality inspectors and technicians.
  • Allocate inspection responsibilities and monitor performance.
  • Train employees on quality standards, drawing reading, measuring instruments, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop a quality-focused culture within the machine shop.
8. Continuous Improvement
  • Drive initiatives to reduce rejection, scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality.
  • Implement Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing techniques where applicable.
  • Monitor quality KPIs and prepare regular management reports.

Required Qualification
  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Additional qualification in Quality Management will be an advantage.
Experience
  • 12 15 years of experience in Quality, preferably in a CNC / Machine Shop / Auto Component manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in handling a quality team and customer audits preferred.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining processes.
  • Knowledge of measuring instruments and CMM.
  • Knowledge of SPC, MSA, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plan, 8D and CAPA.
  • Good knowledge of root-cause analysis and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Good communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and quality reporting.
Authority
  • Stop production in case of serious quality non-conformance.
  • Reject non-conforming material/components.
  • Approve first-piece and process inspection results as per company procedures.
  • Initiate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Escalate critical quality issues to Plant/Management.
