Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience.
  • 5+ years of program or portfolio management experience.
  • 2+ years of people management experience preferred.
  • Experience with lean and agile methodologies is required.
  • Experience working in scaled agile environments is preferred.
  • SAFe experience and/or SAFe certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools or data-driven insights to improve delivery.

Job description

What Is the Role? The Product & Technology Group (PTG) at Blackbaud is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking leader to join our Portfolio Management Office (PMO), where you will work with a passionate team responsible for optimally managing a diverse and complex portfolio. You will be responsible for cultivating a high-performing team of delivery experts and guiding them in leading strategic and complex initiatives across multiple teams and/or departments. You will also advance our lean portfolio management discipline and operational effectiveness by supporting the continual evolution of our processes. This role requires a leader who can leverage portfolio, program, and agile experience to effectively manage assigned portfolios and help ensure predictable and efficient delivery of commitments. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successfully leading geographically dispersed teams and developing strong leaders. You will need to be innovative, adaptable, and able to lean into the details while keeping the big picture in sight. Whatever the challenge, you will consistently look for ways to mature how we work, improve outcomes, and strengthen delivery across the organization, including leveraging emerging technologies such as AI to scale impact. While this role is rooted in lean portfolio management and operational excellence, experience working in scaled agile environments, including SAFe, is preferred.

Portfolio & Program Leadership

  • Lead the adoption and maturation of lean and agile best practices across assigned portfolios, supporting visibility, alignment, and thoughtful orchestration of work.
  • Ensure effective portfolio management across assigned portfolios, including decision management, dependency management, change management, and end-to-end roadmap alignment.
  • Lead portfolio programs and teams in strategic planning and in predictably and efficiently delivering on commitments that result in reliable outcomes.
  • Guide teams and stakeholders through business readiness, supporting effective collaboration from planning through launch.
  • Lead projects and initiatives assigned directly to you.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive and promote effective process management, identifying and pursuing opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce risk, complexity, waste, and cost.
  • Foster a culture that uses metrics and insights to inform decisions, guide change, and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Support alignment across agile functions within the portfolio so teams work in concert to deliver valuable outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Leverage AI tools and automation to improve PMO efficiency, reduce manual overhead, and enhance decision-making across portfolio and program management activities.
  • Identify and implement AI-driven opportunities across reporting, forecasting, dependency management, and risk identification to improve delivery predictability and outcomes.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-enabled practices within the PMO and across teams to increase scalability, consistency, and focus on high-value work.
  • In areas where teams operate within scaled agile models, support effective planning, coordination, and execution practices; experience with SAFe is a plus.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience.
  • 5+ years of program or portfolio management experience required.
  • 2+ years of people management experience preferred.
  • Practical experience with lean and agile methodologies is required.
  • Experience working in scaled agile environments is preferred.
  • SAFe experience and/or SAFe certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools, automation, or data-driven insights to improve delivery efficiency and effectiveness is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead across geographically distributed, cross-functional teams.
  • Strong business acumen, operational excellence, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with executional detail.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop leaders, strengthen team effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.
