Job summary

Probus Smart Things is seeking an experienced Sales & Business Development professional in Power Trading to lead end-to-end sales for an energy management platform serving Open Access, C&I consumers, and power market operations. You will own the commercial cycle, drive platform adoption, and manage a high-value industrial portfolio.

You will work with product and tech teams to translate feedback into product improvements, design trading strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and grow revenue

Qualifications

  • Engineering Graduates/Postgraduates (Marketing & Sales Preferred).
  • Experienced sales professional with proven sales track record of sales to C&I customers in Open Access.
  • Hands-on power trading experience on power exchanges, short-term power sales, long-term Power Purchase Agreements; strong understanding of power trading strategies and portfolio management; procurement & Scheduling; power market operations across multiple states; and price analysis.
  • Hands-On experience of various trading tools & Platforms.
  • Should have handled portfolios with Open Access C&I consumers & utilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of CERC, SERC, and exchange rules.
  • Having experience in handling a minimum team of 10 members.
  • Should have demonstrated excellent customer relationship management across the portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing market conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Sales & Business Development for the energy management platform, owning the full sales lifecycle from prospecting and solution positioning to commercial negotiations, deal closure, and onboarding of Open Access C&I customers.
  • Build and manage a high-value C&I customer portfolio, positioning the platform as a strategic energy procurement and optimization partner rather than a software vendor.
  • Translate customer feedback into actionable product insights by working closely with the product and technology teams to continuously enhance platform capability and competitiveness.
  • Lead end-to-end account management, ensuring smooth implementation, billing accuracy, energy settlements, and proactive customer support.
  • Design and execute power trading and portfolio optimization strategies, leveraging deep hands-on experience with exchange platforms, scheduling mechanisms, and trading tools.
  • Manage power trading portfolios with a strong focus on margin optimization, volatility management, and risk mitigation across DAM, RTM, and bilateral markets.
  • Continuously analyze market signals, price trends, regulatory changes, and demand patterns to develop short-term and medium-term trading strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Ensure strict compliance with CERC, SERC, and power exchange regulations while proactively tracking regulatory developments that impact commercial strategy.
  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving market environment, balancing growth, profitability, and risk discipline.
  • Build and scale a high-value C&I Open Access portfolio by acquiring and managing strategic industrial customers.
  • Own the full commercial cycle from identifying opportunities and structuring energy solutions to negotiation, closure, and onboarding.
  • Design and execute short-term power trading and procurement strategies that improve customer margins and reduce volatility exposure.
  • Drive measurable revenue growth, portfolio expansion (in MW), and contribution margin improvement.
  • Engage proactively with DISCOMs, SLDCs, traders, and regulators to ensure smooth approvals, compliance, scheduling, and settlements.
  • Translate real market feedback into product improvements by collaborating closely with the product and technology teams.
  • Monitor market trends (DAM, RTM, bilateral, DSM) and convert insights into actionable commercial strategies.
  • Build long-term customer relationships based on transparency, performance, and trust.
  • Operate with ownership, speed, and commercial discipline in a fast-moving power market environment.
