Job summary

Oben Electric Vehicles in Bengaluru seeks an experienced Colour Development Engineer to lead end-to-end automotive colour development for EV 2W applications. The role requires collaboration with global/domestic paint suppliers and internal R&D, Design, Quality and Manufacturing teams.

You will own colour costing, drive cost reductions, and oversee lab, panel and production trials from concept to SOP, ensuring consistent colour standards and robust paint performance across coatings.

Qualifications

• Degree in Paint Technology / Polymer Technology / Chemical Engineering / Chemistry or related field.
• 8–15 years of experience in automotive paint technology, colour development or paint formulation.
• Strong hands-on experience in shade matching, colour formulation and paint costing.
• Knowledge of pigments, resins, additives, solvents, primer/basecoat/clearcoat systems and DFT.
• Experience with automotive paint suppliers and managing colour development from concept to SOP.
• Strong understanding of cost reduction and supplier development.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new colours, shades and special-effect finishes for EV 2W.
• Collaborate with paint suppliers for colour matching, formulation development and shade correction.
• Ensure colour consistency per master panels, colour standards and E requirements.
• Develop and validate low-cost paint formulations/raw-material alternatives without compromising colour, appearance, durability or required coating thickness (DFT).
• Own paint costing, including raw material, consumption, conversion, wastage and process losses.
• Drive VA/VE, paint consumption reduction and cost-per-vehicle optimization.
• Evaluate supplier quotations, benchmark costs and support commercial negotiations with Procurement.
• Lead lab, panel and production trials, validation and final colour approval.
• Monitor paint performance parameters including DFT, gloss, adhesion, durability and colour consistency.
• Troubleshoot shade variation, paint defects and formulation/process issues through RCA and corrective actions.
• Develop alternate formulations/suppliers to improve cost competitiveness and supply resilience.
