Job summary

Kirloskar Industries Limited seeks an experienced Manager for Application Engineering in Power Generation Electrical Design to lead the electrical product design team. You will drive end-to-end electrical design for diesel, gas, and hybrid gensets, overseeing control panels, switchgear, and wiring harnesses.

You will guide NPI/VAVE efforts, set milestones, and ensure compliance with global standards while mentoring a multidisciplinary team in Pune.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Electronics Engineering.
• Extensive experience in electrical design engineering with leadership/management experience in generator sets, switchgear, heavy equipment, or power systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and build a team of electrical hardware engineers, harness designers, and panel layout draftspersons.
• Act as technical lead for generator set electrical architecture across NPI and VAVE initiatives.
• Drive project schedules, design milestones, design reviews, and cost targets for all electrical deliverables.
• Oversee design, engineering, and logic implementation of Genset Control Panels (MCP/DCP) and micro-controller-based controllers.
• Lead design and selection of power breaker panels, ATS, and MCCB; ensure proper busbar sizing, CT/PT, SPD and NGR integration.
• Direct the design of low-voltage DC control harnesses, engine sensor harnesses, and AC power distribution wiring.
• Ensure compliance with IEC 61439, ISO 8528, CE, IEEE; oversee FAT, Type Testing, EMI/EMC validation.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and vision-driven Manager Application Engineering Power Generation Electrical Design to lead our electrical product design team. In this role, you will be responsible for end-to-end electrical design execution for diesel, gas, and hybrid generator sets (Gensets) ranging high-power industrial and utility-scale units. You will lead cross-functional projects, managing the detailed design, selection, and integration of critical electrical subsystems, including control panels, power breaker panels/switchgear, and heavy-duty wiring harnesses.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership Project Management

• Lead, mentor, and build a team of electrical hardware engineers, harness designers, and panel layout draftspersons.
• Act as the technical lead for generator set electrical architecture across New Product Introduction (NPI), and value engineering (VAVE) initiatives.
• Drive project schedules, design milestones, design reviews, and cost targets for all electrical deliverables.

2. Control Panel Automation Design

• Oversee the design, engineering, and logic implementation of Genset Control Panels (MCP / DCP).
• Architect systems integrating micro-controller-based Genset controllers (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp, Woodward, Deif).
• Standardize instrumentation, protection relays, communication protocols (CANbus, J1939, Modbus, Ethernet), and IoT remote monitoring telemetry systems.

3. Breaker Panel Power Distribution Design

• Lead the design and selection of power breaker panels, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and Motorized Paralleling Breakers (ACB/MCCB).
• Calculate busbar cross-sections, short-circuit ratings, temperature rise, and cable sizing for high-current applications.
• Ensure proper selection and integration of current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), surge protection (SPD), and neutral grounding resistors (NGR).

4. Wiring Harness Routing Engineering

• Direct the design of low-voltage DC control harnesses, engine sensor harnesses, and AC power distribution wiring.
• Standardize harness components including heavy-duty industrial/automotive connectors (Deutsch, Amphenol), terminal blocks, conduits, and protective sleeving.
• Ensure harness design accounts for thermal isolation, vibration resistance, electromagnetic interference (EMI/EMC), and ingress protection (IP ratings).

5. Compliance, Testing Quality

• Ensure all designs strictly comply with global and regional electrical standards (e.g., IEC 61439, ISO 8528, CE, IEEE).
• Oversee Prototype Build, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Type Testing, thermal rise testing, short-circuit testing, and EMI/EMC validation.
• Champion Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 8D problem-solving processes for electrical field failures or quality issues.

Qualifications Technical Skills

Education Experience

• Education: Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering (EEE), or equivalent.
• Experience: 812+ years in electrical design engineering, with at least 35 years in a leadership/management role within the Generator Set, Switchgear, Heavy Equipment, or Power Systems industries.

Technical Skills Tools

• Design CAD Software: Proficiency in 2D/3D electrical CAD tools (e.g., EPLAN Electric P8, AutoCAD Electrical, Creo Harness / CATIA Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical).
• System Design: Deep working knowledge of Genset paralleling systems, load sharing, power management systems (PMS), and grid-tie grid protection.
• Electrical Analysis: Hands-on ability to perform short-circuit calculations, protective device coordination studies, and thermal/voltage drop calculations.
