Department: Production – Leather Garments

Position: Manager – Leather Cutting Department

Experience: 10–15 Years

Job Purpose

To independently manage the complete Leather Cutting Department and ensure optimum leather utilization, accurate cutting, minimum wastage, timely feeding to production, and adherence to buyer and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage complete day-to-day operations of the Leather Cutting Department.
• Prepare and execute daily, weekly and style-wise cutting plans as per production requirements.
• Ensure correct leather selection, grading, shade matching, defect identification and panel allocation before cutting.
• Monitor cut plan vs. actual cutting and ensure timely feeding of cut components to production lines.
• Control leather consumption and wastage and continuously work towards improving leather utilization.
• Verify cutting as per approved patterns, size ratios, specifications and production files.
• Ensure correct numbering, bundling, shade segregation and size-wise control of cut components.
• Coordinate closely with Merchandising, PPC, Leather Store, Pattern, Production, Quality and Planning teams.
• Ensure availability of required leather before starting bulk cutting and immediately highlight shortages or quality concerns.
• Monitor cutter productivity, manpower utilization and daily targets.
• Allocate work to cutters based on skill level, style complexity and production priorities.
• Maintain accurate records of leather issued, leather consumed, cutting output, balance leather and wastage.
• Conduct regular checks to prevent incorrect cutting, mismatching, avoidable defects and excess consumption.
• Ensure replacement panels are controlled and properly recorded.
• Coordinate with the Pattern Department for pattern corrections, consumption concerns and technical issues.
• Ensure cutting department follows approved SOPs, buyer requirements and quality standards.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for cutting-related quality problems and implement corrective action.
• Maintain proper housekeeping, discipline, safety and organized storage within the cutting area.
• Train and develop cutters, supervisors and other department team members.
• Prepare and submit daily MIS / cutting reports to management.
• Support management in productivity improvement, cost reduction and process-standardization initiatives.

Candidate Profile

• 10–15 years of relevant experience in leather garment cutting, preferably in a reputed leather garment export house.
• Strong practical knowledge of sheep, lamb, goat and other garment leathers.
• Excellent understanding of leather defects, grain, stretch, shade variation and panel matching.
• Strong knowledge of pattern placement, leather consumption and wastage control.
• Experience managing a sizeable team of cutters and supervisors.
• Good coordination and problem-solving abilities.
• Should be comfortable working with Excel/MIS reports and production data.
• Strong leadership, discipline and accountability.
• Ability to work under production and shipment deadlines.

Qualification

Graduate / Diploma in Leather Technology, Garment Manufacturing, Production or a related field preferred. For this position, strong hands-on leather cutting experience will be given priority over qualification.
